      Agreed, and I'll add -

Those that work a 9-5 don't understand stressful shift work. So going from a shift work career to retirement can be confusing if you don't have a plan like Eagle stated. Pick up a new hobby, go volunteer somewhere until you find a few things you may want to take up as a hobby.

      Good luck to you.

Congrats, Brother. Retirement is everything it's cracked up to be, and then some. LACERA sends you a check every month just for having a pulse.

Like others have said, buy plenty of LE mags before you turn in your credentials. I spent $250 on my last day just on hi cap magazines that I wanted.

It's hard to believe, but March 30th I will have been retired five years. Time to renew my credentials.

I am planning to be off about a year or 1 1/2 years relaxing, traveling, and do things I wanted to do. Then, considering to return to part time work doing what I do now. I already spoke to another agency and they said they will welcome me then.

Once you get out, and enjoy life as a retired person the incentive to go back will be substantially diminished!!!

                    Congrats on your pending retirement!!!

I can't believe that I've been retired nine years this week....It seems like if was just yesterday!!!

Buy lots of regular mags now. I wish I had more for some of my guns. I find myself planning some purchases now based on what mags I have.

I worked with a guy that retired, started a new career, and now does weekends with an east county agency... and he's very happy now. Before he was an 'ol bugger. lol

micro, don't be surprised if you find yourself looking for work just to have something to do. I was getting pretty grumpy until an armorer job fell into my lap, now I'm happy to get up and go to work... no more prima donna lawyers, jerkwad liberal judges or run of the mill idiots to deal with, I'm just a gun plumber and like it!
I'm retired. That's right, retired. I don't want to hear about the cop who stopped you today or how you didn't think you should get a ticket. That just makes me grumpy!

Actually, I had a great job offer from a federal agency that will pay me more than what I make now in Idaho. My wife's first word when I mentioned it was , "no." Oh, well....
