It can be done behind the back if the subjects/perpetrators palms are facing each other. Always try to cuff them with their knuckles together palms facing out. It's a lot harder to get that leverage. The best one I ever saw though, was of a set of cuffs that the subject had bitten he way out of. Perfect break about in the middle of the single strand, and, yes, complete with teeth marks. That visual has stayed with me for over 20 years. Be safe out there.

I saw a video of a kid in Juv hall do something similar. He was cuffed behind his back and he worked the cuffs back and forth so fast he created enough heat to break the rivet that holds the chain in.

I don't think it was the heat that popped the rivet. He must have hit the sweet spot and torqued them off. We had to hacksaw a pair of cuffs off of a cadet after a "training mishap" once. That saw blade generated a lot more heat then rubbing the cuffs on something could.

It took the kid about 5 min vigorously moving his wrists that's all I know..

Definitely wasn't heat that did it.

Why do pharmaceutical company laboratories now use lawyers rather than lab rats for testing?
Lab personnel don't get as emotionally attached to lawyers. Lawyers do things rats won't.
Animal protection groups don't get nearly as excited.
                  Some people actually LIKE rats.

I only use sw or peerless right now and have no idea how they can break. Other ones are known to break from what I've read.

I don't rule anything out but I've handcuffed and transported hundreds of people. I've never seen someone break cuffs with physical force.

Poor handcuffing and people slipping cuffs is a much more common issue.

The real trick would be how to dislocate the bones in your hand..There a story where a guy slipped his cuffs off and went for a pistol that he had hidden on his person that the officers at the time to not find. He killed one and injured I believe two or three others. I think it happened in Indiana...

Hinged cuffs would solve this problem, unfortunately many agencies do not allow them.

Two different models of Peerless cuffs were shown being broken with that technique.

I've had a couple sets of Peerless break over the last few years. The ones I remember turning in, the double lock broke and would not disengage, the other set I bent the double strand in a "fun" little ground contact enough that the single strand would not even begin to pass through.
