Not shallow; it's by far the largest river in Idaho. Great class III - IV rafting and kayaking through Hell's Canyon, but need a float permit from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Interestingly, one of the few western rivers that flows south to north through western Idaho. Really picks up flow the farther north you go. In Southwest Idaho, it's generally flat except for some Class II through the Birds of Prey area. As mentioned, lots of waterfowl hunting and fishing on the Snake.

We moved to Idaho in 2016 from Folsom and landed southeast of Bosie in Mountain Home, It's an hour drive to work in Boise. I don't mind the drive as I am always moving. We looked on the west side of the valley and the traffic reminded me too much of Ca.
Don't miss anything about Ca other than lane spliting on a bike.Comment

We got here on April Fool’s day of ‘20. Airbnb for three months in Meridian until we found a place outside Middleton. Never looked back. Don’t miss California at all. We even hate going back for family obligations.
winter weather is likely more mild than most Californians think. We bought all sorts of winter clothing and rarely use it. We only get about a foot of snow annually. We’ve had less than 5” so far this year.Comment

Pretty much my thoughts. Had I known that Star was gonna blow up like it has, I would have found a place in Middleton, too. RE: weather - summer is pretty much the same here as it was in San Ramon, and winter is just a little bit colder on the whole. Very little snow to mention. The biggest adjustment I struggle with is the stupid long days in summer and the short days in winter. I just returned from a 2 week stay in SoCal, OMG what a craphole that has become.

Not sure what type of boating (boat) you are interested in. As previously mentioned by others, aluminum jet boats are popular here and they can be quite large. My previous neighbor had a 24' and sold it to order a 28'. There's Swan Falls on the Snake south of Kuna 40-60 minutes from the TV and Hells Canyon near the border. Several reservoirs Lucky Peak, CJ Strike, Lowell, Cascade and Brownlee an easy drive. Most of these don't charge a fee to launch or park. Make sure to get the State parks pass when you register your vehicle. It's $10/ year and it costs $7 to enter a park. If you wait the parks dept charges +/-$40/year. The wife and I have not regretted the move one day since moving here November 2020. We both dread trips to CA, which are much rarer now that all four kids have relocated here. There is already talk of the TV housing market going higher from displaced fire victims leaving CA. Time will tell, but it would not surprise me to see people leaving for ID, UT, AZ, TX etc."Good intentions will always be pleaded for every assumption of authority. It is hardly too strong to say that the Constitution was made to guard the people against the dangers of good intentions. There are men in all ages who mean to govern well, but they mean to govern. Be sure.
It takes courage to uproot yourself from everything you know,
I wish I would have done it 10 years earlier
Left California in 2018, and it is awesome outside of California.
If you live in Sac, your summers already suck so you don't have to worry about leaving some of the best weather.
Congrats!
some side benefits of moving- Most groceries are less
- Energy costs less
- Fuel costs less
- You get free bags at the grocery store
- No paper straws
- Gun and outdoor culture walk hand and hand, and both are awesome
- People of friendlier (for the most part)
- Registration of vehicles is laughable ($186.00 for 2 years on a 2024 z06)
- Bureaucracy is far less.
- Neighbors actually care
The list can go on and on and on.
I lived in a small town in California and could shoot on my property, but nothing is like living outside of California!LIVE FREE OR DIE!
