Of course, the gun situation is day and night. No CCW necessary. Carry what you want, where you want. Buy ammo online or at the store and take it to the counter yourself. Buy any handgun you want and walk out with it in 20 minutes. Take the ridiculous fins and muzzlebrakes off your AR15s. I just bought a suppessor. Every single person on my street owns guns and shoots. We get together as a neighborhood and everyone talks guns, even the wives. Garandthumb lives just up the street from me. I can literally go shooting across the street. The state sponsors shooting ranges. They want you to shoot. Also, I have never seen so many gunstores in one area in all my life. I can think of 15 just off the top of my head. I used to belong to a great shooting range (West End Gun Club). It was about $340ish a year. My current club is $45. That is practically free. Instead of battling the 91 and 15 freeways for 1-2 hours, I drive along the Payette River for 40 minutes. I don't even go the speed limit it is so beautiful. Why rush?

But, it is not just the guns that are better. I told my wife when we first got here, "We didn't move to Idaho, we moved to 1950." People here are decent. There is no homeless. Actually, I saw one bum / homeless (I hate that term). The cops made her move. People let you in when you drive. No one honks at you. I have not honked once in an entire year. I drive down the street in my neighborhood, and people wave at me. It freaked me out at first. Now, I do it too. People here seem happy. If you go 5 mph over the speed limit, a sheriff will pull you over. Laws are not just a suggestion here. There is no graffiti. Almost everthing here is less expensive, except food (its the same). Gas is over a $1 a gallon cheaper. My auto insurance decreased by over 50%, my electricity bill is 1/4 of what it was before. When they told me my property tax and home insurance cost, I just giggled. It is thousands of dollars less expensive.

If you are tired of being targeted by the communists in Lucifornia, I highly recommend escaping. Life is short. Throughout history, people have fled evil regimes for freedom and lived happier lives.

If you decide to come here, vote RED. Actually, please vote dark red, burgundy maroon so we keep it that way.

Had no idea it took so long to buy a gun in Idaho. Why does it take so long?

IN NV it only takes 5 maybe 10 minutes.

Living in Idaho part time, the small town we live in, everyone waves to you, so now when we are out walking our dogs we just wave at people whether they see us or not.
Seemed weird to us at first too.

All and all, I agree with what you wrote, moving to a free state from Cali is crazy. I wish we would have done it 10 years sooner. we did it almost 10 years ago.

    Good for you OP!!!!1

    Be prepared for the haters

Don't come down to NV, you will be disappointed that your price for diesel is so high.
I can never figure that out.

Yeah, that's a head-scratcher. I live in ID as well and my local FFL has me in and out in about 10 minutes, just need to do the DROS and pay. Of course PPT transactions are cash and carry in a local parking lot and can be pretty quick....... but usually take a lot longer because I end up shooting the sheet with like minded individuals.

OP . . . I'll be 61 in a few weeks and I'm in the process of moving the rest of my stuff to Oklahoma from Mojave. Born in SOCAL. Been in the AV (Lancaster/Palmdale) since 1985.

Everything you said about Idaho . . . I say the same about Oklahoma. It is a different country and time all together. It is a great feeling to actually be free! Can't wait to sell my old house so I don't have to ever go back!

Except . . . there does seem to be a few more homeless here since I bought back in November. I blame Brandon's economy plan

My family lost an uncle who moved back to Minnesota after being gone his whole adult life, his second winter he slipped and fell walking out to shovel snow, he ended up dying in the hospital a week or so later. Turns out this happens a lot.

Good luck to you with your wife. When my wife and I first moved here, she would just randomly burst into tears she was so happy. We have been married for 34 years and I had never seen anything like it before. I am 100% serious. Not one day goes by that I don't stop and think about how grateful I am to be here. Seriously. Every single day.

Good luck to you. I lived in Lancaster from 1st grade to 4th grade. Then, Ridgecrest. The desert is awesome!

My daughter lives in Emmett. We were there June 19 for my grandson's birthday. GarandThumb bought his ranch in a canyon just north of there from what I can tell. I lived in Idaho from 1984-2005, when I moved to south Orange County. As much as I love Idaho, I will probably never move back. Although we have considered trying to get some land around Arco, or somewhere in eastern Idaho.... Great recreation access over there.

I'll trade freedom for weather any day.

Freedom lover - what do you mean by locking up Christians? There are millions of Christian churches here. Literally everyone on my street is Christian (including myself) with the exception of one family.
Boise area has a mild climate sheltered from big time snowfall, like we get here in N Utah. That's why the IOC is giving us the winter olympics again in 2034. Big time snow in other parts of Idaho as well.

But in TV, Boise, Eagle Valley area the housing costs must be extremely expensive ?? Making it impossible for the average homeowner in the IE, say, and other similar areas in California to relocate there if retired on a pension and/or minimal social security. Likely much more affordable in the extreme wintery parts of Idaho.
