I miss the 2003 Iraq, the 2006 Iraq sucked. 2003= Raids, foot patrols and other high speed ****. 2006= gate guard, escorts and more gate guard.

I don't know about missing it, but 2003 was a lot better, more freedom less micro managing. Although we did route clearance in 2005-2006. By the way, you said you were in 1-67, so that would make you Bco 588th right?

The invasion of Iraq was something, that's for sure. I was with 4th LAR attached to 1st LAR, and went in with RCT5 as part of 1st MAR DIV. We broke off after 1st LAR returned CONUS. That was an interesting experience to say the least. Little micro-managing and lots of freedom, that's for sure. We felt like the Cavalry in Indian Territory. It was the Wild West all over again. We were doing route assessment/route recon, LP/OP, lots of patrolling, and tons of raids. The exact type of scout work that we had trained for. I have to say that I do miss it. At the same time, I pray that U.S. involvement in Iraq and Afghanistan will come to an end sooner rather than later, so that we as a nation can rebuild our Armed Forces and prepare for any other possible threats that may come our way in the future. That's just my two cents.

Hahahahaha. That's just nasty. You both need years and years of therapy and a team of nuns praying around the clock for your immortal souls.

Been trying to get 1 more deployment in before I ETS for good and the army is holding me down, saying I got stabilization. Stabilize me in combat!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We were doing raids in 06. I miss it. I miss the people I worked and served with the most. It was the best year if my life. For some of the people I served with it was an honor and a privilege to serve with them. There are times I wish I was back there in Iraq.

You were probably infantry right? We were combat engineers. In '03 we did everything from blowing up bunkers full of munitions, raids and patrols to dressing up a couple Hispanic guys as arabs and having them drive a bus of us into an "arms market" with the shades closed, OPs in Opel station wagons with tinted windows and paddling across a river in a zodiac 12 because the motor would be to loud.

I honestly think 2006 sucked because we were attached to tankers and didn't have our own battalion anymore.

As some others have mentioned I miss the people that I worked and served with. Seems that you meet a lot of good people on deployment and I've always had good teams so I'm pretty lucky. Just got back from Afghanistan in September, what do they expect. Put us some where for 6-18 months and we get used to it, part of you is bound to miss it as you are in a routine that you've done for just that long. Luckily I was only gone 8 months at Bagram so it wasnt too bad for me.
