I listened to it live. Easterbrook and the other liberal judge seemed to be carrying the water for Illinois for large portions of the arguments, but in rebuttals at the end the state tripped pretty badly.

Lots of dangerous OR unusual and in common use "for self defense" qualifiers. To me these orals went all over the map and drifted everywhere. Rocket launchers and grenades blah blah blah

        Easterbrook is borderline retarded.

He basically advocated for the end of the NFA, as a fully automatic rifle is in his view, MUCH easier for a person to use. "Why can't an elderly man just hold back the trigger and move the rifle around? That seems much more effective to me."

Easterbrook is also the guy who was slapped down in McDonald v. Chicago, and has been called out as an actual liar on the bench by his peers.

I can only imagine the mental gymnastics it will take for someone who is about as informed as intelligent as a desk lamp to craft an opinion that isn't absolutely taken up and destroyed by the Supreme Court.

How many more chances do lower courts get before SCOTUS realizes they can’t be trusted to properly rule on gun rights cases?

The oral argument today was a travesty, with two of the three judges nakedly arguing for the government position.

Judge Easterbrook might as well have walked over to the other side of the courtroom and taken the place of the Illinois counsel.

A straightforward constitutional review of prohibiting assault weapons and high-capacity magazines became a nonsensical debate about M16 machine guns and Stinger missiles.
A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.

The Second Amendment makes us citizens, not subjects. All other enumerated rights are meaningless without gun rights.
