Doesn't matter, the strife and discord makes their virtue signalling all the more virtuous and even easier for all the affluent white women to assuage their white guilt with anti-gun yard signs and wine spritzers.

Democrats have a super majority in both houses and the Governor. The democrats, except possibly for a very few downstate rural dems,, don't care whether any law they pass is constitutional. They just want to say that they voted for the laws for the next election cycle and that they are doing everything they can to attack violence - except actually capture and incarcerate the offenders.

This was posted today. While it is, ostensibly, by a different author, it does include some of the same language as the OP article. What's interesting is that supporters aren't even waiting. Instead, they are claiming it doesn't go far enough even now.

Supporters of assault weapons ban in Illinois tell lawmakers bill doesn't go far enough

...The changes promised in the proposal -- House Bill 5855 -- will fall short, Saunders said. "If this bill will pass, no more assault weapons, things will be still happening on the streets," he said. "They (illegal weapons) are out here in a major way."

Saunders and other proponents said the bill introduced by state Rep. Bob Morgan, D-Deerfield, earlier this month is long overdue but more steps are needed to address gun violence in the state. Gun rights advocates, however, called out the proposal for infringing on constitutional rights...

HB 5855 lists more than 100 semiautomatic firearms and assault-style weapons such as the AR15, yet some advocates say that list is incomplete. Others such as Dr. Karen Sheehan, a pediatric physician at Lurie Children's Hospital, said more needs to be done to keep firearms out of the hands who may be a risk to themselves or others.

The state's Firearm Restraining Order allows family members and law enforcement to withhold weapons from those "in crisis," she said, but does not allow licensed health care providers to do so. HB 5855 expands the temporary restraining order to 12 months, up from six, and creates the Commission on Implementing the Firearms Restraining Order Act...
I believe this is the current version, all 69 pages, of HB 5855.

What is it that we keep warning about? Oh, yeah.

It will never be enough for the anti-Constitution forces.

And Illinois creates with a signature, hundreds of thousands of lost, missing, ghost, etc. guns. It's like magic! All those guns missing!

SCOTUS not taking Bianchi and Duncan set the country back for years. Eventually, this all MAY be undone but they should have stopped it now.

And not using the opportunity in Bruen to do away with permission slips entirely has really been a key screw-up. Thomas failed highly with that one. Oh well, now we have a SCOTUS opinion that can be extrapolated to allow government to require a permit for the exercise of any constitutional right. Words matter, and we have been smeared with dog crap.
