So what's the word on detachable mag semiauto shotguns like the Vepr/siaga? Have to register or ok just taking out the gas Puck so that it won't cycle?

I do it every day, to no avail.

Here is a hypothetical that may become actual: what do we do after midnight on June 30th if we haven't received any response to the submission from DoJ? Separate the upper receiver from the lower receiver? Or?

Can anyone tell me how to figure out what dealer is associated with a specific number that's on the paperwork I got from DOJ saying what guns are registered?

When does the CFARS website go down every night and when does it come back up? It's going to be a long night tonight.

Maybe ask in the FFL subforum?

Around 11:30 pm. Usually by 1 am, it's back up.

Get your registrations in now, fellas. High likelihood the site is gonna go down Saturday night on the 30th and anyone who leave it up until then will be SOL!

In 2016, I bought 2 complete (AR) rifles & registered both 2 weeks ago.

Also in 2016, I bought 2 (AR) stripped lowers and completed them.

Would it be a bad idea to register my lowers with the uppers from the complete rifles mentioned above?

                Thank you-

I think what you meant to say is that those lowers at some point before end of 2016 were fitted to centerfire uppers and therefore fall under the 2017 BBAW definition so they are now registerable, right? Don't fall into the trap saying that they were never fitted to centerfire upper before and you put an upper in 2017 or 2018, because that is considered manufacturing an AW.

No law or regulation I'm aware that says you can't share uppers between ARs, but some on this thread have mentioned each lower better have its own upper. Not sure of the reasoning.

You must have completed the rifle into a functioning rifle between 2001-2016. If that was the case you can register it, but we have had some issues with people re-using multiple uppers while trying to simultaneously registering multiple lowers.

Here is the problem- in the registration process we are swearing that we have a functional rifle at the time of the submission of the application. If DOJ sees that you simply re-used one upper on multiple firearms, they might have a problem. How can they all be functioning if only 2 of 4 have uppers?

It's not a question of dedicating an upper to a lower, it's a question of does it meet the requirement of being a fully functioning rife. Back when we had more time I suggested that people register one rifle, then get the letter in hand. Once it is registered there is no requirement to keep it a functioning rifle at all times, so then take the upper and use it to register other rifles. That would technically meet the requirements of it being functional at the time of registration.

But we are out of time. Consider buying a cheap lower and registering or keep it disassembled or go non-AW with it.

Agreed with Disco, but I think in your last paragraph you meant buy a cheap upper, not buy a cheap lower. Definitely don't buy a lower now and try to register it.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

Yes, cheap upper, sorry. Seen some for $200 with the BCG. I wonder what the absolute cheapest is these days.

$200 with BCG is a great deal, I doubt there's anything cheaper. Best deals i found are PSA, usually around $300 for a basic one with BCG.

question someone asked me regarding joint registration..

Guy got his firearm rights back via 17B reduction and dismissal from a conviction after 2017. His wife has owned an ar for years and has always kept it inaccessible to him.

Wife has registered AR under her name and Husband who now has his firearm rights back wants to jointly register. you think any issues?

                              Thanks for the explanation, Discogodfather.

Even if he buys a cheap upper tonight, he'd have to pay overnight or 2-day shipping to get it to his address. Then he'd have to register it within the next 2-3 days. Since he's registered his first two ARs, do they need to remain as functional AWs until "the letter" arrives?

Then what about some of us that decide to separate our uppers from our lowers after 6/30/18 until the letter is in hand?

Every once in a while you can get a PSA upper with free float and nitride barrel and BCG for around $250.
