Yes, it is now a Firearms Safety Certificate, and no longer an HSC, which was for handguns. This is required to DROS a long gun now as well.
For the form 1008 specifically, I believe it will accept a valid HSC currently, if you have that, as well. But you need one or the other.

****! Can I get an HSC/FSC online??
I work 12 hours a day and would hate to ask for a day off to go get a Firearms Safety Certificate. Would they give me a doctors note? lol.Comment

I had off for a long time so my wife could get hers only to find out that there's no place to submit it and there's no mention of it on the application.
I don't know that it does, but the important thing is that you have to move the old items back into the regular cart from your "pending cart" the next time you log in before you start another submission. Otherwise, you end up with multiple carts that can't be combined. All "pending cart" items must be moved first each time you log in.Comment

Doesn't take long. Maybe you can go somewhere on a lunch break? Easter holiday us coming up. Have any time off then?Comment

You can get the FSC from most FFL's and sporting goods stores that sell firearms. It's really easy if you just study the questions and answers online and you will breeze through it. Questions like "It's ok to shoot a firearm in the air if: a) It's a wedding b) It's in a safe direction c)It's a birthday d) never.
Some oddball legal stuff on CA law as it pertains to deadly force, etc. I do not think you can do it online. Usually they charge like $20 but I have seen really slimy dealers and FFL's ask for lots more.Originally posted by doggieSomeone must put an end to this endless bickering by posting the unadulterated indisputable facts and truth."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T. But of course nowadays we try to avoid Dick's
BTW, DiscoGF, thank you very much for all of the time you spend helping those of us trying to navigate the current legislative labyrinth...which will only get crazier as June 30 approaches.
I hope someday I can repay you with a free beer (at the least) and I'm sure everyone else who has tracked your responses over the past several months feels the same...for your sake I hope we don't all meet up on the same night, LOL.
It might be a lost cause but we are doing our best to keep the 2A torch lit while facing the tyranny of the current California gestapo government .Comment

Forgive if this has already been asked and answered in this thread or elsewhere. We really haven't spent much time reading on this topic, but we are starting to get lots of questions from customers about these things.
1. What happens if I submit my application to register before the deadline, but they haven't processed it by the end of the registration period? Or, what happens if the deadline passes, and DOJ wants me to modify my application or submit better photos?
2. Has anybody had issues with joint registration when the second applicant goes to register the same gun?
3. What if I selected 5.56 caliber, but I just checked my DROS and the dealer has it as .223?
4. Oh and this one, I bought a gun from a different store, and they can't tell me the DROS date because I did the DROS before longgun registration and/or the LGS is not there anymore. I think I bought the gun sometime around (whatever day) has anybody had an issue with this yet?
These are just some of the questions I've fielded from customers who don't use calguns and are just trying to do the right thing and are looking to their LGS for help.
Thanks everyone.Last edited by acespawnshop; 03-12-2018, 12:09 PM.Interstate Transfers $100 (DROS included with the price)

Vaguely they say that as long as it's in, it's good. This is the "phone response" and in general we can't rely on anything the DOJ says via phone, many people have gotten totally wrong contradictory info from the phone. It would make some logical sense that if the submission is in there that it's in, and it doesn't matter how long they need to process it. Most likely the CFARS is still up and you can modify your applications when they ask for different info.Forgive if this has already been asked and answered in this thread or elsewhere. We really haven't spent much time reading on this topic, but we are starting to get lots of questions from customers about these things.

That one I just to not know.
Most likely if the FFL got it wrong they will revise it based on what the receiver says in the photo. If the receiver is marked 5.56 they will ask you to change it. What happens more often than not is that the receiver was marked .223/5.56 and they FFL entered it as whatever the first caliber was. Then the DOJ says it's marked dual calibers and that you should enter it as "firearm with interchangeable barrels". Whatever the confusion, they will ask you to change it. If there is no marking on the receiver or on the barrel, then things get strange, but that's a pretty difficult scenario- I haven't yet seen a factory gun without a caliber marking on the receiver. I think they changed marking standards (the Fed standard) slightly in the 1980's, so I am not sure.
I had the same problem, a few gun shops had gone out of business like High Bridge and the SF Gun Exchange. Others had changed their names and ownership. I put the approximate date, then explained in the comments exactly what I thought- that it was an estimate and if I could remember the name of the shop I stated it or if I could not then the circumstances. So far no kickbacks or rejections on that issue. If you just can't remember then get as close as you possibly can with some of the info, like "I purchased it from a FFL in 1992 at a gun show, then converted to BB in 2001, I think the name was Johnson Firearms, etc.".

Chances are they don't have any info pre 2011 or so, so the real task is just accurately remembering more recent purchases, especially post 2014.Originally posted by doggieSomeone must put an end to this endless bickering by posting the unadulterated indisputable facts and truth."The California matrix of gun control laws is among the harshest in the nation and are filled with criminal law traps for people of common intelligence who desire to obey the law." - U.S. District Judge Roger T.
