Handheld engraver should work fine, insofar as marking it in accordance with the law... but it probably won't look that great.

I've seen at least one person use steel stamps to some degree of success, but you might break your receiver in the process.

It's generally a better idea to just take it to a professional engraver, unless maybe you need to a lot of them. Most engravers I believe charge somewhere in the range of $30-$50 per firearm. For the typical person doing 1-4 receivers, it just isn't worth trying to save money doing it at home.
Settle down, folks. The new "ghost gun" regulations probably don't do what you think they do.

I have a rifle with a pinned folding stock and there really isn't a fixed version. The pinning is really hidden and impossible to show in a photo. Literally impossible regardless of lighting and closeness. Do I just put a note in the comments and pinky swear?

Is there any way you could disassemble it slightly (or completely) to better how it's pinned?

My concern is that, in light of recent reports of DOJ field visits for "compliance verification", you might get an unwanted visitor if it isn't completely clear to them that your stock is pinned.

I would have to unpin the stock to show how it works. Kind of a catch 22.

Maybe you can remove the stock completely, then remove the pin from the stock and, take a picture of just the stock by itself? I dunno, it's hard to give good tips if I don't really know what we're talking about, but honestly I'm mostly only familiar with the AR platform so I'm probably not the right person to ask. Maybe shoot Discogodfather a PM, he's way more familiar than me about registering other rifle platforms.

Fixed it. Not what I wanted to do but whatever. I redid the pinning with a externally visible screw. Not as elegant and I had to cannibalize a spare $70 part on top of 2 hours of dicking around and re-taking the photos.

So 40 days end to end for all and 32 days for the late addition.
I'm not getting any of these "submission confirmation" emails. What do they look like? I had a couple incomplete kickbacks which I fixed and they all now in progress on the website, but I never received anything else via email. [Yes, I checked my spam].

It's about a paragraph long, and ends with "you'll be notified of your results by US Mail". Some people get it, and some people don't.

Basically, getting the email means you're approved, but NOT getting it doesn't necessarily mean you weren't approved, it just means they either didn't process it yet, or they did process it but didn't bother sending you that email.

I got the emails for all but one of my rifles about a week after I submitted. But over a month later, I still haven't gotten it for the final rifle.

Does anyone know what will happen if we submit the application before 7/1, but they don't review it until after 7/1 and they come back with questions such as asking to resubmit a photo? Would it be too late at that point or would they still complete the registration since the application was submitted before 7/1?

Nobody knows what will happen, but anyone who hasn't already submitted an app by now is going to find out. They'll *probably* still honor it, but no guarantees.

At this point the hest plan is to submit the best photos you possibly can, that show everything they could ever possibly ask about, and make dang sure the info in your app is spotless.

Might even want to submit each gun as a separate $15 app so if they do have questions about any of them it won't hold up the rest. More expensive certainly, but that's the cost of procrastinating

Hope this is the place to ask this question. How will I answer the form if my rifle shows in my receiver : CAl 223-556? multi ?
                        Thanks.

Yep, answer "firearm with interchangeable barrels".

You would only select a specific caliber if your receiver is stamped with ONLY one caliber (yours is stamped with two), or if there's no caliber stamp on the receiver whatsoever.

If it's been 3 months or longer, then it might be time to contact DOJ to see what the hold-up is.

Also be sure to check your Spam folders and such for any emails from DOJ.

And yeah we’ve been checking the spam folders. I’m just worried hers hasn’t been acknowledged.
Just be patient. I submitted mine on the 15th of April and I have only received the confirmation e-mail where they say "you'll be notified by US mail" for one of the two rifles I submitted.

I do think they are getting swamped with registrations so not much we can do. These registrations would've gone a lot faster if they actually hired people that knew about firearms.
