I don't exactly have a dog in this hunt, but I've been reading the thread with interest because I received my off-list lowers through that shop. I'm glad that Chris posted here to say "my bad", and that it appears that this situation will get fixed without needing to bring down the wrath of the Man. I was happy with my own transactions through that shop (none of which were PPT).

Chris is a good guy. Fun to talk with. And it takes some guts to admit you were wrong.

But f*ck it... what's $10... a tip for being helpful.

A million thanks to Chris for the receivers!

Awesome. That is all you can do, you admitted to it, apologized, and corrected your mistake. The important thing is now you can keep on selling lowers. Well done. I am glad someone was able to talk to him some more before someone had to drop a dime. Hopefully no one dropped a dime. Hats off to you.

Report them.... ( <- I am taking this back..... )

I figured they were mistaken and thought it was a FFL transfer. I called myself since that is way more than the legal limit and the place said, 45 for one and 20 for each extra on a private party transfer. I said wait a minute and read them the PC directly from the DOJ site that says:
"For private party transfers involving one or more long guns, or a private party transfer involving one handgun, the total allowable fees, including the DROS, safety, and dealer transfer fees, are not to exceed $35.00. The dealer may charge an additional dealer-service fee of $10.00 per each additional firearm transferred." (PC section 12072(d))

That is the law. I read the law to them and they said pretty much sorry that is what we charge. After I showed them they are in violation of the law ,they do not care.

I am also considering contacting the DOJ on monday to report them for violating the law (PC section 12072(d)) that protects us gun buyers from dealers overcharging us on PPT's.

What do you guys think I should do?

read the entire post before you make a reply. The FFL has said sorry and corrected his wrong. You can't ask for any more.

GUNS4WORK Well here goes... things aren't always what they appear. All who know me know that I would never, ever do anyone wrong knowingly. If the law was misunderstood or we were misinformed by the doj then these things will be corrected as I type. Our sign was inspected by the doj the last time they were here and nothing was said. (Maybe the agent didn't even read it) This is a serious mistake on our part as all of you have stated in this post. After I hung up the phone with this customer I stated to my boss that I/we might be wrong. I looked up the pc and sure enough I stand corrected. If you chose not to do business with me after this I understand. None of this is about being greedy, it's about mixing ppt fee's with internet/out of state transfer prices on our sign and with our training.

We are here to make an honest living and treat all who visit with respect. We try very hard to give out correct information and charge appropriate/legal fees for all our services. I can only apologize for our ignorance. This is the best I can do on a public forum.

              Chris

It takes an honest man to correct his wrong and make good on his word. You sir have a new customer and my business.

I think since this episode has been resolved the thread title should be changed now?

We are talking about 10 or 20 bucks. Come on, the guy is hardly making any money and it is a lot of paperwork.
I have bought 4 lowers from him there, and he has great service. He always takes care of me and even calls me to give me heads up if a DROS is about to expire. He is a cool guy, and he deserves to make 10 extra dollars.
Anyway, we need to stick together. How many FFL's in CA even are doing these transfers. Most FFL's are afraid to even touch em. He is the only FFL in CA with any balls.
I cant believe you selfish a-holes would even consider turning someone like that in for 10 bucks. You make me sick to my stomach. Lets try sticking together any trying to get our messed up state back on track. We cant start fighting with each other. There isnt very many of us left, and thats what the anti-gun wackos want us to do. Lets not help them out. PLEASE
Hey rambo, unloosen that scarf around your head, i think your getting a lack of oxygen to it. You make little sense. Anyways, I see your post count and your use of choice words and don't take you too seriously. I don't care if someone is overcharging me by a 1 dollar or 100 dollars. It is the point that I am forced to use an FFL for a PPT and FFL's get the special privelages to sell guns but have to do certain things to that they might not want to do. PPT's are one of them. I follow the law and they should too. I contacted them and told them the law and they did not want to listen. So, i felt it was needed to go to the next step. Overcharging for a service that is required by law is dishonest and unfair. Very simple concept!

Now, I did get a PM from Chris giving me a formal apology for the mistake.
He also said to give him a call and would appricate my business. I hope in the end he was not overcharging on purpose but he seems like a good enough guy. No hard feelings here. Thanks for standing up Chris and you made the right choice in coming forward and letting everyone know that you will change your policy. Again, thanks for being a honest guy and businessman.

I will be in early next week to do a PPT, 2 lowers, and paying no more than 45 bucks :-) ;-)
Will the DOJ get a phone call now? NO. Problem fixed between normal adults, the way it should be. We don't need to get the real idiots involved now.

Thanks again and guys keep shopping at with Chris @ BRIGHT SPOT PAWN.

Chris, your a good man. People make mistakes and I understand that. You have a customer for life here man.

                      I will vote for a donkey-sex maniac if he's pro-gun.

and here I was, thinking this whole ordeal was gonna amount to an ENRON sized conspiracy...but geez, Chris over at BS really killed off all that drama with a quickness.. that apology regarding his misinterpretation of PPT vs FFL fees was quite sobering..

it's good to know that no real harm was done and that BS is still providing a wonderful service to us less fortunate residents of South Kalifornistan.

                            good stuff all around...

                            umm..group hug time??

I'm a little late to this thread, but I just wanted to pipe in that I've done business with Chris/BSP in the past and they are absolute, stand up guys. I had an issue with an out-of-state seller, and Chris helped make it right... quickly, fairly, and economically. I would not hesitate to work with them again (and plan to), and his post above is more proof of that. Glad it's working out for everyone else too.
