SF Chron: "Open-carry activists to tote long-guns in public"

"People are really upset about this law, and if they won't let us carry handguns, we just have to defend ourselves with the next thing available," said co-organizer Yih Chau Chang of Dublin, who intends to bring his unloaded pump-action shotgun to Saturday's rifle meet-up. "This just shows that here in California, our gun-control laws have gotten out of control."

    ***

"Actually, this kind of event is an invitation to ban long rifles in public now," said Juliet Leftwich, legal director of Legal Community Against Violence, a gun control group founded in San Francisco in response to the 101 California St. massacre of 1993 in which nine people died.

"Open carrying of any guns, pistols or rifles, alarms the public and it wastes law enforcement resources while they have to monitor the people carrying them," Leftwich said. "It would be best if it were totally banned."

"this kind of event is an invitation to ban long rifles in public now,"

An invitation the CA legislature will be more than happy to accept.

Usually I would write a pro-RKBA comment to anti-gun articles. In this case, in all honesty, I cannot bring myself to do that.

I'm still trying to figure out exactly how these people think the public would react in a positive way to an open carry event of long guns.

                And with good reasons and

Who is to say that they havent already accepted this invitation on the mere suggestion that one might LGOC?

It's like this, any arm short of maybe a nuke and up to and including a battleship, you should be able to own by original intent.

But NEVER should you show your @$$ in public with so much as a water gun. Even if all the laws were on our side, not all of the public would be or has to be. Some people don't get the "gun thing", and it's disrespectful to infringe on there rights or beliefs to prove you can carry a frickin' UNLOADED shotgun or AR around in the city.

Vote for pro-gun candidates, or lose your rights, and the rights of future generations. That's it. The end.

The bill isn't before the legislature yet, so I'm going to say it hasn't yet been accepted. You'll see the thread here in the 2A section when they take you up on it though.

What do you mean 'when they take [me] up on it'?

Are you under the mistaken impression that I am leading up this merry band of long gun toters? Or even support LGOC (or any other flash mob display of hardware)?

If they think their "victory" is walking around a mall open carrying, they have no idea how staggering the loss will be when they introduce yet another bill to ban it.

If we had the general public's support, an event like this could do a lot of good to bring the message to the masses. The problem is, the overwhelming majority of people in California disapprove of guns. Your average supporter of gun rights is also going to be offended by this action because it will result in nothing, there is no upside to this protest.

The only positive is when open carrying is completely banned, these people can crawl back under their rocks so the real defenders of the 2nd amendment can get back to work.

I open carry once in awhile, if it isn't normal in the area you're in it does make people uncomfortable.
While I wouldn't advocate it for CA I can understand why they want to, people are fed up with control freaks.

Hopefully it will get sorted out soon, sometimes keeping it 100% concealed is difficult-especially if you want quick access in an emergency.
