Why is DROS as a tax good? What excuses for not granting LTC have been eliminated?

This may sound strange and unbelievable to you, but it is real and true.

so what will happen to AK build parties now?
when will long gun registration go into effect? will the long gun registration mean that every person who owns a rifle will have to register it? or only the ppl who buy a rifle after the date the law goes into effect?
and will CGF take the long gun registration to court?

I never bought the "we destroy your info" line. It is too easy, and too tempting to retain the data. It really isn't that hard. Perhaps they were more interested in codifying an existing practice than createing a new one.

I'm still optimistic for California, but the signing of these bills is one of those "1 step forward, 2 steps back" situations.

No no no.... it applies the same rules of registration to long guns as it does to pistols. Meaning if you build it then it doesn't have to be registered. Or if you already own it then it doesn't have to be registered. Only when you buy one do you need to register it or if you bring one from out of state or transfer and blah blah.so what will happen to AK build parties now?

Basically the DROS fees are supposed to cover only the cost of gun sales and doing the background checks and maintaining the system. It's clear now that the fees are too high, because they have a surplus, and this bill will let them raid it for other departmental uses. It's basically becoming less of a cost-covering fee and more of a tax.Yeah what I about that? I was thinking the same thing before. Isn't there a limit on 'fees' they can charge on a right? I mean now that it isn't covering any administrative costs, is it vulnerable to litigation?
Or did the bill that passed basically just change all that? I'm confused and tired =(Comment

There was an argument in the case Michel and Associates filed that the DROS fees were fees and not taxes. Now that the DROS fees are used for other stuff, it's clear they are taxes and thus unconstitutional.
In both carry cases, the judges ruled that since you could UOC in urban California you had an alternate means of self defense in public. Now you don't. Heh.
Absolutely nothing. Only new long guns that are DROSed will have their serial numbers retained in AFS. If you bend your own flat, no DROS. If you buy a bent receiver, the DROS will retain the serial number just like your handguns.

Because you can't tax a right.
UOC.
UOC was called out by the judge in San Diego when she ruled against LTC/CCW reform by saying that UOC is a valid alternative to LTC/CCW. Now that we don't have UOC, we've no longer got to overcome that argument and we're a step closer to shall issue.Comment

Thank goodness we have Kasparovs, Karpovs, and Fischers playing the game for us and not a bunch of Pong gurus."When you get the (men) to the range, you just get the men. All things said, you gotta love his veto letter, "let's keep our powder dry."
I predict a surge in 80% builds and AK build parties......as long gun registration occurs at purchase....."Cum catapultae proscriptae erunt tum soli proscripti catapultas habebunt."

Once they drain that, then the program will need more money to run so they'll raise fees.
They keep trying to do the same thing with the OHV fees paid on ATV's and other green/red sticker vehicles.Comment
