Lautenberg: Can't buy guns if on No Fly list.

I'm not sure how I feel about Mr. Lautenberg's proposal in light of the government's track record of persons that errorneously have been placed on the "No Fly" list.

The article states that persons are placed on the list daily and they are unaware that they are listed... It just appears to me that it's another, "guilty until proven innocent". Cautious? Overly Cautious? Another "gun grab or restriction" in the guise of National Safety?

Hmmm.....stripping people of a constitutional right w/o notice or due process? Yeah, I have a problem with that.

At least ppl in free states could still buy guns by PPT w/o the gov'ts knowledge.

Considering some people get put on the 'no fly' list for no articulated reason or because their name is a little to close to someone else's, I'm going to have to say it's a pretty terrible idea.

Guilty until proven innocent, with no procedure to prove that you are indeed innocent? Totally unconstitutional in my book.

I have a BIG problem with this proposal. The no fly list is Constitutionally shaky at best -- I think it's ridiculous. The only possible justification for it is flying is sometimes considered a privilege, not a right. Here's the problem: even if there's some way to justify the no fly list Constitutionally, you cannot extend the recourse of a list crafted with no due process of law to infringe a Constitutionally protected and fundamental right.

This would, in effect, create a program in which people are stripped of their gun rights without ever being arrested or entering a courtroom. An arbitrary, unelected bureaucrat could simply decide he did not want Joe flying or buying guns, and Joe would be f***ed.

This proposal is wrong. The no-fly list is so arbitrary and subjective IT should be removed, IMHO.
If endorsed, it's just another example of how a scared public will give up their rights (and the rights of others) to "feel" safe.

Not only do I strongly oppose this Scheme I also want the 'domestic violence misdeamnor' lifetime gun ban overturned.

The problem is a vast majority of Americans would support this.

They also support being forced to consent to sexual assault (sorry, my mistake -- it's a "Freedom Grope"), or irradiation by equipment run by totally incompetent former burgerflippers, as a condition for travel.

They also support monitoring of all personal communications, and warrantless wiretaps.
