Nothing has passed both houses yet.
The deadline to which you refer is for bills to pass out of their house of introduction (Senate or Assembly) by June 3rd.

AB144 passed out of the Assembly and is now in front of the Senate Public Safety Committee, scheduled to be heard Tuesday June 7th.

AB809 passed out of the Assembly as well.

SB124, 427, 798, & 819 all passed out of the Senate and are now in the Assembly.

Understood. When's the next deadline for passing out of the legislature?

Seems odd that you can still find rifle AP at gun shows and could buy 30-06 from the CMP last year without a problem ?

That's because there is NO Federal law against Rifle caliber AP.
Only "handgun" calibers. De Leon is trying to use the Fed way "handgun" AP is banned, to basically ban ALL rifle and pistol calibers in CA since anything could "penetrate metal".
            He's a whack job.

Right. If IIRC, there is a weird almost highcapban-esque legal twist though....I think you can sell and buy, but cannot manufacture/produce new AP ammo. It's why you can find .30-06 and .50bmg, but not 5.56 or 7.62 so much (M855 isn't classified as AP)

Let me correct my statement...I just realized that if SB 124 gets passed, we will be voting on part of it (Section 1) in the next general election:

"The bill would also provide that this provision is
                operative upon approval by the
voters and directs the Secretary of State to place this provision on
the ballot of the next statewide election."

But sadly, Section 1 is not the meat of this bill in regards to ammunition.

Furthermore, I have no faith in the majority of the electorate which is craven with fear of firearms having only seen them in violent TV and on the news making them evil in their minds. Our state is run (by votes and by the politicians they elect) by residents of the two large metro areas and they are by in large ignorant and fearful of firearms. That has a near zero chance of changing. Ever.

Not all sheriffs are ignorant of politicians and do not fall for this kind of nonsense. Many sheriffs in CA do not like this ammo ban and they do not like the fact this does nothing regarding crime. This is a court fight and debate that will not end anytime soon. Game on CA gun owners!

God Bless John Moses Browning..........Utah has it right. Last night MSNBC's Lawrence O'Donnell called John M. Browning, "The Merchant Of Death". O'Donnell tongue lashed Utah good for making the 1911 the state gun. O'Donnell conveniently forgets one of the only reason Mr. O'Donnell is able to have a nightly show is because John Browning invented a superior weapons system that was used in many wars to allow us our freedoms. God Bless the Browning 1911 and the Browning Automatic Rifle as well as many other exceptional firearms that gave the USA her freedoms we enjoy.
forget about the 1911 or BAR. the M2 / M1919 machine gun alone saves his behind more times he can count.

Anti-firearm people aren't rational. You cannot reason with them. Firearms to them are like night terrors to a 4-year-old: inexplicable and primal horror that causes a fight or flight response. My sister-in-law insists that having a pistol for self-defense just provides a weapon a criminal can take and use on you—despite the fact that most criminals will already have a weapon and your having something is better than nothing and being a sheep for slaughter.

I think this state's anti-firearm people will not ever change and they are the majority. And they elect legislators that share their craven fear—or at least pander to it. So we, in the words of Samuel Adams, will need to be an irate tireless minority that lights brush fires in judicial minds.

This is exactly how I was converted. I grew up in a very anti gun liberal household. I am still a liberal. However due to the kindness and patience of other firearm owners, I have come to understand valid arguments on both sides of the debate. I, myself, have since come to believe that more guns, in the hands of trained and responsible citizens, leads to less crime.

While I agree with this above quote, I would like to point out that the state is already in such financial peril that armor piercing ammo is the least of our concerns.

The ban was to protect cops, and if you are laying off cops, or displaying cops, fireman, and teachers as the cause of our financial crisis, we have past the point of being a world class society. We have entered a new phase of jackboot economic oligarchy facism. And facists don't like armed citizens, especially with armor piercing rounds.
