Very true. The Legislature will continue to pass these bills into law and I have little doubt the governor will sign all of them, further and further strangling gun owners in California.
I'd love to be proved wrong, but I fear that the courts are our only hope.
I think it is about time to abandon this state. The tax burden, out of control spending and liberal special interests are simply too much for me to stomach any longer.Comment

I know what you mean. Just listening to all the other bills prior to the ammunition bill...sheesh, what a bunch of garbage! There was one bill that had something to do with regulating what vending machines had in them, providing healthy options like apples and grapes. Republicans said "let the free market decide, people don't have to buy junk food if they don't want to", but of course the Democrats said, "no, we know what's best for people".
And then there was De Leon on his soap box "If this bill saves the life of just one cop, it is worth it!" (meaning it is worth stripping down the rights of millions of law abiding citizens). All animals are equal but some animals are more equal than others. -George Orwell, Animal Farm

If I were to buy a bunch of AP 5.56 now, and this passes, if I kept the ammo, would I be breaking the law, or would that fall under ex post facto type law? Would I have to destroy it or register it? Sorry, a bit of a newbee here.
Also if I were to move, and in the process of moving would I be breaking the law by "transporting" such ammo?NRA life member

Armor Piercing ammo is already illegal under Federal Law.
The problem is that this legislation uses the concept of 'metal piercing' which applies to any & all ammo, especially as it does not define what is considered 'metal'. Could be aluminum foil or mylar...
Yes, there likely is a constitutional vagueness challenge possible... but we all remember what happened last time.Life SAF Member

As far as I am aware, it is legal now. As to whether it will be legal in future, again note that I said that it appears that this law _could_ be construed to apply to ANY ammo, no matter the composition.
W/o a definition of what is 'metal' and 'penetrate', no further determination can be made, any more than we could perfectly nail down what was 'handgun ammo' for AB962. Almost any handgun ammo can be used in a rifle/carbine. the .22lr (Long Rifle) is very popular in both rifles and handguns. AR-pistols exist that fire 5.56NATO. They probably exist for .308. If you stretch far enough, the Taurus Judge .410 is a handgun that fires shotgun-shells (albeit the Judge isn't California legal, it's classified as an SBS).Life SAF Member

I do think that the bill in question would be found unconstitutional by almost any half-ways reasonable court. Yes, I think that even a court in California would strike it down.CGN's token life-long teetotaling vegetarian. Ok, I'm confused. What's the status on AB 144, AB 809, and SB 124? Did they pass both senate and assembly? Wasn't yesterday their last day to pass anything until the next session?Originally posted by cudakiddI want Blood for Oil. Heck I want Blood for Oil over hand wringing sentiment!Comment
