    minor AW law BS

Bored, poking around my county's BoS minutes.

    (See item 50).

Then read the supporting memo for background. For some reason this really bugged me. I'm sure SWAT is going to get a whole bunch of use out of that (by playing with it at the range, on my dime, and little else).

This AW ban nonsense *really* needs to be gone.

A donation from an estate, really?

If they wanted to donate it no problem, but too bad they didn't donate it out of state.

Barrett's boycott of CA LEA's weakens with actions like this.

Agreed, but I'd say odds are Mister Ross passed away, Mrs. Ross ended up with a bunch of guns, and had no idea what to do with them.

I bet they aren't going to use it at all, there is no good place to shoot a .50 on the peninsula.

I doubt they would use the rifle for police work without sighting it in.

It will probably get stolen out of a cop car in EPA.

I made sure Barrett Firearms got the s/n of that rifle and links to how it passed from Mr. Ross to the SO. Why? Purely out of spite.
          I love you.

However, it appears that there's some inter-PD/distributor swapping of parts so LAPD is actually getting their Barretts fixed, just not by Barrett itself.

Surrender your valuables to the state... you have no need for them!

I gained a lot of respect for Barret when he made that announcement... to bad his distributors are going against his wishes.

It would be interesting to know if she knew she was "donating" the gun to the PD vs. turning it in to be destroyed or just "off her hands"

                      No, not you...

... San Mateo Sheriff Greg Munks and a cohort drove a dept car to Vegas for some kinda LE "fun run". They had their own 'fun run' in with some 'massage therapists' that were, IIRC, busted by LVMPD. Google "Sheriff Munks Vegas massage" and you'll get the details.

SOB stole my name.... before I came up with it... lol.

I like the list of items confiscated during the raid.

As far as the OP goes, I read the records about it... I hope they auction it off with the proceeds going to a worthy charity or something, they REALLY don't need that thing.

Also... this reminded me of some issues earlier on Calguns.
WHEREAS, Pursuant to California Penal Code section 12285(b), any person who obtains title to a registered assault weapon by bequest or intestate succession shall, within 90 days, render the weapon permanently inoperable, sell the weapon to a licensed gun dealer who has a permit from the Department of Justice to purchase assault weapons, obtain a permit from the Department of Justice to possess assault weapons, or remove the weapon from this state
I would be nice if they actually issued these damn permits. Didn't Gene try to get one, Appeal, and was re-denied a few years back? Inheritance seems like one of the ways of compelling them to hook up the license, since it wasn't obtained purely for "collection" purposes, and has sentimental, and monetary value, which represents a significant investment.

I can hear the testimony now... "It was the only item that I was able to obtain from his estate, it means so much to me, as it was his favorite rifle; now the state wants to take my only peice of him away from me!!! Why oh why won't they just issue me the permit to keep a peice of my late uncle's legacy with me?"

Once they break something it'll become a paperweight though since Barrett will not service or sell parts for one to any CA law enforcement agencies.

The California legislature has banned the .50 BMG from the good citizens of the state of California, violating their rights and the constitution of our republic. Therefore, Barrett will not sell to or service any California government agencies.

I agree that it is a shame. I wonder if he had any sons who enjoyed shooting what should be passed down from father to son to grandson.

I was also shocked by the budget increase for radios. From 700k to 5.2M.

read that one again.. It was an increase OF 700k, not FROM 700k. That would have been INSANE if that were the case.
