Not enough information to draw any conclusions aside from the fact he doesn't know how to balance a trailer or drive with one.

There's not really enough info in the article to be certain, but I'm going to guess that the poor bastard didn't know the gun in question was illegal.

and there isn't enough info to know if it was actually illegal. The article refers to a "Plumcrazy 5.56 caliber rifle" but doesn't elaborate. AFAIK, the Plumcrazy brand plastic AR-15 lowers came out after the OLL revolution, so if it was transfered through a knowledgable dealer, it would have been explained what needed to be done to keep it legal.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

My take is there is not enough info on said 'AW'. It is a OLL-legal. Evil features-maybe. Never knew CHP was so educated about firearms. Must have got their info from DOJ.

And frankly there are only two dicks allowed on CGN, ivanimal and me.

Or he could have undressed it (removed the BB) because he thought that his next stop was going to be out of state.

                True.

Either way, just take the damn upper off the receiver and save yourself the headache. Also, learn how to tow a trailer properly, it's not that difficult.

If learning "to tow a trailer properly" involves slowing down, methinks that would be very difficult for some people.

I'm surprised that the article didn't label the gun as an "AK47-type assault machine gun" capable of taking out a tank!

Looks like he also had an improperly stored handgun as well.

                        Not enough info.

1.) Plumcrazy is a new brand and I believe most any CA FFL would have instructed the buyer of the lower to 'keep it legal'.

2.) If the resultant rilfe were split apart, AW charges are not valid.

3.) Hell, the CHP could have charged an AW violation for a BB'd or MMG'd rifle.

We'll try to find out more.

Later officers confirmed that one of Anthony's rifles was in violation of the California Assault Weapons Act. The CHP has requested that a felony charge be filed. Officer Doug Northington said that the man's Plumcrazy 5.56 caliber rifle is considered an assault rifle.

They said it was an "assault rifle". Select fire full auto?

Maybe he took the BB off thinking he was taking it out of state.
