    Antwon,
Search for gold or coin in your area. I found 2 on Redwood road just searching coin. Then call around to ask their rates. Junk silver aka silver currency coins have the least markup, so you lose the least amount upon purchase. They won't laugh at you if you walk in and tell them it's your first time. They're not like to take advantage either since you can just take your business elsewhere if they pull one over on you. If you have a smart phone install the app "silver calculator", you can always see what any coins melt value is with a couple clicks. 1 oz coins are nice too, but dimes are just over $1, quarters about $2.90, 1/2 dollars $5.60. If you need to use them as currency its best to have small denominations. Price goes up and down pretty dramatically with the price of silver obviously. But today $200 will buy you around $17 face value in junk silver. Break that up however you like. $5 in 1/2, $10 in quarters and $2 in dimes or however you like and of course you're limited by whatever your dealer has. Last time silver dropped hard my dealer had NOTHING for nearly a month.

I'm going to disagree on the junk silver for SHTF bartering. I would wager that over 98% of the US population has no idea what the difference is between a pre-65 silver-content quarter and a quarter that was minted last week (in fact, most would likely prefer the one minted last week because it's new & shiny). Yes, preppers will probably know and coin collectors will surely know. But in SHTF, what are the odds that all your bartering will be with preppers and coin collectors? As for everyone else, good luck trying to convince them that your pre-65 quarter is worth more than 1/4 of a US dollar.

        98% now

Ok, but after a major SHTF event the population will be less, and it will be the prepared who stuck around, and that group knows what a pre 64 silver coin is worth.

          Craigslist

If you are comfortable with craigslist I'd post the following ad in your area - I think its still free over there (bay area).

          WTB Pre 1964 Silver Coins
Dimes, Quarters and Halves maybe Silver Dollars at the right price.
Will pay 80% of the going rate of silver prices at coinflation.com

If you don't get any takers offer 85% a few days later. I've never had enough cash to meet all the 85% sellers. I've run out of cash on 80% sellers before.

Is there a good place near Castro Valley, CA that I could buy them for a fair price? I saw a couple places online selling the, for $18/bar.

          Thanks.

Not necessarily. Look at what happened in Serbia, or Argentina, or what's happening in Venezuela. It's not like all the unprepared instantly die off and only the preppers survive.

Even in an economic collapse like Argentina, most of society remained semi-functioning. But I bet that the people who had physical gold and silver coins that were readily identifiable as such to anyone, fared better than those who didn't.

No matter what kind of SHTF event you can imagine, there will be prepared people who perish, and unprepared people who survive.

Sounds like a great way to set yourself up to get robbed. I know from your post that you've been successful, but to me it would not be worth the risk.

                It's a concern

In stockton a man was robbed selling an Xbox on CL, and then shot when be refused to give it up. I get there is risk. I've met people at Starbucks, Jack in the Box has a big parking lot right off its drive thru near me, and if I have a hinkey feeling Mrs Ripon can sit in a separate vehicle with the AR she loves so much! She has offered but I haven't taken her up on that.

Maybe in the Bay Area it's too risky? IDK. I enjoy it when I have cash, and the stuff usually trades really well for ammo too.

                        QE 4 is now coming

Just ask Peter. I think he is right. Pretty obvious today with Janet that the Fed is scared to death the strong $$$, which will send us deeper in recession and causing deflation.

Central banks got the go ahead it seems to instantly send the buck down $2 and of course buy buy buy stocks rising the DOW 350 pts in anticipation of QE4 and all the free money they will get. All happening in seconds. Man that's scary, when she blows, it's going to be brutal. Oil and Gold did great. Oil has to be higher or they run the risk of that deflation. Gold it seems they may just let it rise now as the printing is inevitable.

I don't see how RE in this environment will do much better other than the high priced stuff, the middle class is taped and can't afford rents now. Maybe free houses will work?

I'm sticking with Gold and Cash for discretionary dollars, I see rough sailing.

Waaaay to go Schiff, you been spot on for a few decades now. Good calls.

seems Greece is in a catch-22 with the IMF and ECB as bad as Fed is backed into its own corner with interest rates. This is getting interesting.

The new LBMA "price-discovery process " starts tomorrow after nearly 100yrs of the old system. http://www.lbma.org.uk/lbma-gold-price

                              So what is actually happening?
Central banks continue hoarding and repatriating gold in the face of zero or negative interest rates on their fiat. While the MSM runs stories on falling gold spot and a "strong dollar" and an "improving" economy with Wall st. soaring.

What is not happening? The federal funds rate increase. All Zionist hench-troll Yellen can do is talk about it. And be careful to choose her words correctly while walking on glass.

Ive been saying this since I first posted on this thread, the rate cant increase. Do the math. How much is interest alone on the debt at 4%? How about 6%? How about anything resembling what used to be "normal"?
How can the fiat dollar afford to strengthen in the face of weakening currencies in this fragile environment of a race to the bottom?

Peter Schiff is exactly right, we will see QE4+ or a major military conflict before we see "normal" rates. Keep stacking.
                              All systems fail
