On the Jocko podcast, Mike Day, who was shot 27 times, talked about running soft armor underneath his plates.

The IIIA pad will stop the fragment but doesn't have the load spreading attributes of the Trauma Pad (in theory).. but it would help spread it out.

I look at Trama Pads and think "Is this just a REALLY expensive high-density foam pad??" lol

      LOL!

And I really think I'd rather have the ballistic protection than the padding....are trauma pads really just foam?

I wonder if the really thin but rigid IIIA / + plates would fit and also spread the load better.

I'd be inclined to use the soft IIIA pads behind a level III or IV plate for padding if they fit if for nothing else, increasing multihit capability or to stop pass through where ceramic is already shattered.

As backers for $45, a great deal. I wouldn't want to use them alone with those magnum rounds... 6" backface deformation. AND THEN stopped a 5.7 round. I guess if you get those cheapo Battlesteel products they might stop way more than they are rated for

I'd love to see a $1200 Level IV plate VS $99 Level IV plate shooting comparo, but I doubt anyone would do one for many reasons including cost.

I got my Slingster today and SRS shipped the Slickster already. Ordered some IIIA pads to use as backers.

I wonder what IIIA pads would do in front of bare steel.

I got the Slingster and QD hardware installed on a rifle and it is a really nice sling that adjusts fast.

Just unwrapped the Slickster Medium Multicam. Nice carrier that fits snug on plates and snug on me... plenty of adjustment, 10x12 level IV composite plates fit fine. Probably the snuggest fit to get them in there of any carriers I messed with, but easy enough.

Weight is coming in at 12.4 pounds... carrier, front and back plates.

Included cummerbund is adequate and it can hold eight mags very securely or other items... four on a side, putting them to the side and under arms and towards the back for the last pouch. Seems comfortable with two mags on each side and a TQ in back keeping the pocket directly under arms empty. It is nice that there is that much storage in this lightweight base... I found the 3-mag ADAPT front placard and ordered it.

Got lucky and scored a slickster in multicam black from SKD a few days ago. Superfast shipping. Its easily the most comfortable PC I've ever tried. Didnt really want multicam black was hoping to get one in ranger green but at this point I just wanted to get what was in stock and didnt want coyote or standard multicam. Multicamblack is basically the multicam pattern comprised of just ranger green and black colors. Its a low profile pattern which is what I wanted.

Anyways, I ordered two LVIII soft pads, hope I can squeeze them into my carrier, it's tighter than I thought.
