Just curious if anyone here has received any of the Main Gun Surplus plates? The last I heard was that they were hoping to have them in house and start shipping the second week of September. If anyone placed an order, did you receive them yet?

. Seems like the OP has more info then they do. So I've read through all the pages and it seems like the two best options for steel plates right now are.....
1. Armour Wear AR680 Level 3+
2. Main Gun Patriot Plate Version 2 Level 3+
Is this correct? Anyone bought from either company yet?
Edit: just watched a video on #1 and it was defeated with a 22" bolt gun.

Slight update on the Main Gun Surplus plates. The site has been updated and they list their 10X12's as 6 lbs 5 oz. So if it's between the Armour Wear and Min Gun, you're looking at $225 for the Main Guns at 12 lbs 10 oz. total, or $458 for the Armour Wear's at 9 lbs for front and backs...sigpic

I'm trying to see how you come up with your Armour Wear numbers...
I come up with the following for 2- 10x12 plates = $323.30 (taxed & S/H) and 14#'s (with coating, 12.4#'s w/out coating)...Comment

Can someone confirm/clarify what miangun product were talking about?
Blog post by maingun and also linked from dr's blog shows namr as patriot plate 3.
Current newest product lists as pp2
Did someone at maingun goof somewhere on the name?
I thought this newest product was third gen for them. Confused....

It all comes down to attributes. The Armour Wear plates are bargain plates- they are only level IV, weigh 7.5 lbs. and are .75" thick.
The VelSys plates are level III and IV with a backer. They are .60" thick, and weigh a full 1.3 lbs. less.
Basically, they are better plates, well worth more than twice the price. I recommend ALL rifle plates be worn with backers, just for the extra margin of safety.
They are not a bad deal, but with the VelSys, you are paying more for the weight and thickness reduction.Comment

I apologize, I should have specified. I am more interested in weight, after ballistics of course, so I was comparing to Armour Wear's PE and Kevlar option, not their AR 680's...sigpic

Also, I'm now very interested in the ballistics testing of the main gun plates. They are currently not coated, and weigh 6.3 lbs, whereas the non-coated Armour Wear AR-680 plates weigh only 6.2 lbs. So, will the non-coated Main Gun plates out-perform the non coated AR-680 plates? I would hope so since the new manufacturing from Main Gun is supposed to be stronger and lighter. Just questions to consider as new information is coming out...sigpic

So it is clear there are options available to fit what ever budget you may have. It's clear that testing shows AR500 and above will stop a myriad of projectiles sans 30-06 AP from avg barrel length.
It's all good info to have....yet there is a question and scenario that needs to be addressed for hard plates. How do projectiles react with high angles at impact?
It is apparent that projectiles hitting steel plates will ricochet at the typical angle. What is the reaction of a projectile off of a composite/ceramic/ polymer plate?
The likelihood of high angle impacts are low but it is still a concern. What Say those who have active experience? If you took and oath to support and defend, keep it, otherwise your word is meaningless!
There is no doubt Americans are becoming dumber as a result of Main Stream Media propaganda. Look elsewhere to find the truth.
