I make Firestarters using wax, sawdust, and egg cartons, fill each egg hole with sawdust, add wax, let cool then tear each one off for a single use fire starter.

Make your wife some new candlesComment

We heat our home with wood burning stove.
Sawdust from cutting trees for firewood is saved then put into old egg cartons (I have hundreds) upon which melted wax is poured to make fire starters.
Works great for campfires or fireplace too.Comment

Newspaper, or junk mail paper cut to about 2-3 inch strips, rolled up, tied with string and soaked in melted candle wax work great as well.

I know someone who has been taking their old candles and the lent from the dryer and melting the old candles down and mixing the dryer lent with it. They are excellent fire starters, the dryer lent starts really quickly and the candle wax burns long enough to get other things lite up.My lovely wife likes to have candles lit under coolish inclement weather.
Invariably they will burn out and no longer function as intended.
But they leave a large wad/ring of paraffin or wax, which I conclude got be useful for fire starting or something.
They are high level hydrocarbons so not to be disposed lightly, IMO. Now up to two five gallon pails, so looking for suggestions.
Melt them all together in the turkey fryer, lol.

When I was a boy scout we would make fire starters out of a paper egg carton, stuff each dip with dryer lint, then pour old melted candle over the lint. They work great, just tear each section apart and light the bit of egg carton when you need it. Fairly water resistant as well.My lovely wife likes to have candles lit under coolish inclement weather.

I don't know if anyone else does it, but I use the wax for fire starters. I use an old egg carton, add dryer lint and sawdust, then pour the wax in each egg holder. Give you a dozen fire starters at a time.Feedback Score:
