Sportsman package is $142 that comes with fishing license (w/salmon, steelhead)
    Hunting license with
Elk, deer, turkey, bear, wolf, mountain lion tags.
Controlled hunt applications are less that $7 for moose, pronghorn, goats, and special draws for elk and deer (plus cost of tags)

I got the lifetime for both hunting and fishing with all enhancements years ago.

I mean big game enhancement is a deer and 5 pig tags. Current cost for that amount of tags alone is $118.80. Do get that not everyone needs 5 pig tags.

If you were to buy a lifetime hunting with big game enhancement it would pass the break even after 9.23 years. It would take over 17.81 years if you got the lifetime license alone. That isn't factoring any growth of the license fees.

Will say it was tough to pay so much up front, but worth it when you know you are not paying over $100 a year just for license, deer and pig tag.

I mean, if you're already a gun enthusiast then you probably could get by with just the cost of the license and ammunition (and gas, to get to your hunting site).

But if you're like me, and you see each new type of shooting as a new opportunity to buy shiny new gear, then you'll go out and buy a $500 shotgun just for rabbit hunting...

Are they doing that as a bundle now? I remember there was talk last year about them starting a single license that covers hunting and fishing, but I wasn't sure if it panned out. I bought my 2019-2020 license a few weeks ago and didn't see that as an option.

Sorry, should have clarified. I'm not in California anymore.
One of the few things I miss is pig hunting in Parkfield.

This year I will hunt and fish at least 5 states. More expensive than my vehicle insurance this year. Just for license and tags. Only time it ever paid off is when I helped rancher in parkfield curb a hog problem. Shot and processed 5 hogs. Lots of meat. Firsttime I ever ground and made up 100 lbs of different sausage. plus cut and wrapped 150 lbs.

I just looked. Lifetime hunt, bird and big game for me would be $1799 +/- $1 or so.

FYI, 5 hogs does not curb a hog problem. Fills the freezer pretty good though.

Sure glad I dont have to buy pig tags anymore. God Bless Texas

Oh come on. We need different rifles for elk, blacktail, whitetail, and coues. And then rabbit guns are too big for squirrels, so we need one of each of those. And squirrel shooting is high volume, so we need a few squirrel guns to let them cool down. And then 223 versions of each to practice with and save money. And then once you're good with all of your rifles, picking up handgun hunting is fun!

On par with most other nonresident deer tags in most other states.

The good thing is your licence is good for 365 days. So now you can apply for the Spring Javelina (January/February) hunts, next years Elk draw for $15 each. If you draw, great, if you don't oh well. Don't put in for the Javelina unless you plan on hunting them. Because you'll draw that tag almost 100% of the time.
