Ah, junior fees. Didn't think of that, fair enough. You have an excellent day as well.
Edit: But wait, junior hunting license here is $13.22 and the deer tag is $32.97. = $46.19. Remember to have that nice day, ok?Last edited by gotime; 06-27-2019, 1:30 PM.Comment

OK, you quoted Jr. resident Calif. I'll quote Jr. resident ID, combo hunting and fishing 17.50, deer tag 10.75=28.25 to hunt, deer and fish a elk tag for the kid is another 16.50 and those tags are OTC. How much for your kids to buy a OTC elk tag? You have a nice day, I always do.Last edited by elk hunter; 06-27-2019, 3:55 PM.Comment

It costs me about $100 to fill my pickup with gas. When you think of it that way, it isn't so bad.Last edited by Nottacticool; 06-27-2019, 7:12 PM.Comment

Yep. Lifetimes fishing and hunting are both good once you leave. I know a bunch of people that do salmon and rockfish trips back here after moving out, and in 3 or 4 years it pays for itself, if you buy the lifetime while you're still a resident.Comment

Yes, good for life no matter where you live.
I bought the bird package since I don't go after big game every year.
I do hunt birds every year. Has worked out great for me.
If you're young enough, buy a lifetime hunting and or fishing license. Before you know it, it pays for its self.Comment

Those of us who live among the game may disagree. My main expense is the license and tags which I'll admit is getting out of hand.
Other than that and a box of shells every ten yeas or so, hunting is very economical. I take my fathers old rifle on a walk behind the house and fill my tags. I process my own meat and between the wife and I put enough in the freezer to last all year.Comment

I'll grouse about license fees on occasion but it's really not the actual cost so much as the relative cost and value. Here, I pay a couple hundred bucks a year to hunt with a fraction of the odds of success and more regulations than residents of other states. The only thing that makes it cheaper overall is that it's home. Travel costs are minimal and my time away from the family & work is a lot less.
But I still shake my head when I recall my buddy in AR saying he spends less than $25 on a license that allows him 6 deer, a bear, some turkeys, some pigs and pretty much all the small game they can find. Plus, the kids can hunt under their parent's license. I get it -- AR isn't CA. Whitetails aren't the same as blacktails. It's all different. But I can't help but feel that something is off around here.
On the plus side, there's no regulation stipulating just how many square inches of hunter orange I have to wear. As somebody pointed out, here in CA, nobody really cares if a hunter gets shot...Comment
