Agreed but a cheap knife will last long enough for MOST jobs
As for cutting cardboard, I'd never use any knife -- cheap or expensive -- for that purpose.
I'd only use a $1 safety blade box cutter (I've got at least 4 of them lying around) or a utility knife for that.
A box cutter and utility knife will handle pretty much any household or construction job or garden project hat requires cutting anything from paper, cardboard, drywall, plastic tubing, linoleum,
Just my personal opinion.
If I need to cut something it is cut with the blade in my pocket.Comment

I make knives and regularly use folding utility knives. I can buy and replace blades and it's cheaper than my sharpening ratesComment

My experience with cutting card board is that paper is one of the fastest ways to dull a knife edge.
For that reason I use a folding utility knife. Changing the blade is faster than having to stop and sharpen
the edge of a knife. To each their own.

Of course I have utility knives for carpet, etc... but I don't have one in my pocket and the $1 variety are not ideal. A quickly replaceable or scored blade is much better for grinding into concrete. Rounded tips are not quick to repair. If you always carry a X-acto or steel utility, great. I only have them in the kitchen and in the garage. Even still, I use a MORA to cut boxes usually. When it drags I use a worksharp to get it shaving again in a couple minutes. FWIW, brand new MORAS are much sharper than a Harbor Freight utility knife. I have a bunch of both. MORA's do cost 12x more, hahah.
YMMV.Comment

It's going down for real over here. Kitchen knives need a heavy sharpening.

On the topic of harpoon shapes, I almost bought one of these WE knives to try the brand:
$95 seems a steal when you look it over and see all the features you are getting (nice clip, G10, D2, all that gimping and detail). I decided to go with tried a and true ZT though... Rather spend $170 on a sure winner than dump $95 even though the WE is probably nice. Even a weak detent would be a deal killer for me. That 0055 shape with machining on the milled out titanium is really unique in a large blade and with the Cecchini SLT flipper - could not resist.Comment
