Wow! What grind is that? This is much crazier than his standard nightmare grind.

Got my first Rockstead today, a Kou in YXR7. The blade on this knife is amazing, I love the black mirror finish, the attention to finish of the blade seems to be better than most $1000+ custom. Below are pictures of my Kou, along with side by side with my small Sebenza.

Can you contrast and compare to the small Sebenza including fit, finish, materials and price?

I got a crkt m16-13z. It's my first name brand knife and it's pretty great. A good size locket size, and high quality.

Below are my opinion compare to Rockstead Kou in YXR7/DLC to a plain Jane small Sebenza 21.

            Fit and finish:
Overall, fit and finish of the Kou is near perfect, there are no sharp edge (with the except of the blade edge). Blade seat perfectly center, lock up is rock solid, no blade play at all. Lock up is a little early for my taste, but that is just a personal preference. To me the small Sebenza is the perfect folder, this Kou seems to be just as good, but the Sebenza seems to have a tighter tolerance though, tighter gap between blade and scale/lock. Action seems a little smoother on the Sebenza, but I had it for 4 years and used it daily, so it is fully broken in. I have no doubt the Kou's action will be just as good over time.

Now the fit and finish of the blade is a different story. First of all, the Kou have the best mirror finish out of all knives that I had handle. It is better than my Custom Marfione Mini Matrix and semi custom/one off Olamic Rainmaker. The transaction between the mirror finish and the matte finish is perfect. The craftmenship and attention to detail of this blade is even better than most of my $2000+ full customs. Blade hardness is HRc 65.2. It is simply amazing.

            Material:
Kou's blade is YXR7 with DLC coating, scale is Duraluminum with soft stingray inlay. Liner is aluminum with steel insert. The aluminum scale seems pretty nice, the stingray inlay is a nice touch for a classy look. I wish it comes with a titanium scale and liner though, but those are only available on higher end model. Compare to the Sebenza, S35VN blade, titanium scale and frame lock. I have a feeling my Sebenza scale and lock is going to be more durable, but the blade of the Kou made up for it. Both knives run on washer.

            Price:
Rockstead Kou @ $850 vs Chris Reeve Small Sebenza 21 @ $375. I tried to get my knife dealer buddy to get me better price on Rockstead, but he was not able to get me any discount at all, so I ended up purchasing this one at the used market. The original owner of the Kou never used it, but he got to sell it to fund a new project. I got it for $725. Price is pretty high for a production knife, but I can see the amount of time spent on the blade, and Japan labor (master knife maker) is not cheap. Comparing the Rockstead to the Sebenza, the Sebenza is definitely a better value though.

Bought a Opinel Trekking Blue Knife No #7 kind of neat with the light blue wood.

Just ordered a grail of mine. Hinderer xm18 3.5 harpoon fatty with full working finish and blue and black scale. Will replace the g10 scale with titanium once available. Possible crusader theme

I just bought a zt 0450. It's my first expensive knife. It is butter smooth and sharp like a razor.

Benchmade discontinuing the Doug Ritter MK3 Fixed blade so I picked one up. S30V steel and a pretty good value for what it is. Get one before they're gone!

                              I apparently needed this

I dunno why I bough it other than I've wanted one and it was on sale...

I didn't take the photo, Himalayn Imports did, but that's the knife I purchased.

So far it really doesn't feel much different than using a hatchet. My Fiskars hatchet weighs about the same, has a cutting face about as big as the 'sweet spot' on this kukri, and is as sharp. I can choke up on my hatchet for small jobs, or I can use the part near the handle on the kukri for small jobs.

I mean it's big and shiny and sharp, so that's cool!

Beautiful Kukri. The polish on that blade is sweet.
