    Home depot bake on finish?

I heard a few guys talking about this stuff that they sell at home depot and you spray or apply to your lower and then bake it in the oven to, I guess, harden or finish it. Anyone ever heard of this before?

I used appliance paint from HD on a WASR. baked that stuff on and it is tuff. Actually tougher than the finish on my arsenal.

It is basically bake on Krylon and you have to make sure you mask off the inside of the receiver and all holes as it is thick and not designed for moving parts.

I love it when people criticize Cerakote by saying some cheap home improvement paint works the same, joke is on them when your gun has FTF because of paint chips. How tactical is that hmmmm .........

It's Appliance Epoxy, and when baked forms a very hard finish. It is very resistant to chemicals, and I have not had any issues with flaking, gumming up holes in the receiver ect. Just like Cerakote it's how you apply it that matters.

And no you don't need to mask the inside of the receiver.....

After "cooking" the finish is a good match to what the Russians used, just much more durable.

Original finish on the top cover. Appliance Epoxy on the rest.

            Nice!

Just don't use the high-temp engine paint. It dissolves easily with brake cleaner even after baking

Also look up moly resin and/or gun-kote.

For appliance paint, make sure it is Krylon. Some others don't work too well.

That's not really a fair comment; the shop's actions and mis-application do not equate to a bad product. Besides, if you mess up a Krylon job, who is going to step up and offer to fix it for free?

Sure it is....The point is ANY product can be applied poorly, and in such a manner which can cause problems.

It's not "Krylon" it's Rust-oleum.....and not regular paint....

The beauty of the appliance epoxy is it's a do it yourself operation... So if YOU mess up it's on you. So practice first, and read up on various forums as to how to properly apply and bake it.

                        It's not rocket science....

There are a number of positive threads about the appliance epoxy at "The AK forum.net

Rustoleum Appliance epoxy rocks at $4.00 a can, I sprayed these 2 AK's and the stuff is very durable, holds up to all solvents and cleaners.
                          Its all in the prep.....

                          + 1 on everything SVT-40 said!
