this is true but they would absolutly destroy the mag trying and render it useless . I make them very permanent. Be a jynormous waste for 2 rounds.

The thread you link to uses 20rd mags, not 30.

Wish Magpul would go ahead and do them from the factory. How do you guys resist just putting together your parts kit the way it was meant to be?

            • Can you just use a rivet to block the follower like the USGI mags?

I did a version of this with my 30 round PMAG rebuild kits but took some of the better ideas I saw elsewhere, and incorporated them.

                    Here's what I did:

Four 30 round PMAG rebuild kits:

Hanger (which fits perfectly into the spring support on the bottom of the follower) to sacrifice in the name of CA legality:

Load 10 rounds on a follower without a spring, and measure distance from inside of spring support to base of mag (M-16 brush fits perfectly also, and marked it with a razor knife slice into the brush side):

                    Measure the distance:

Cut the hanger, and drill hole through follower with hanger piece installed:

Secure with pan head screw (to keep it from rubbing on the inside of the mag):

                    (cont................)

                      (cont)

Check distance to baseplate with 10 rounds installed:

                      Trim to fit:

Epoxy in place (I used JBWeld):

Make sure they can only hold 10 rounds with base plate installed (start off cutting long, and file the piece of hanger to exact fit):

I also drilled a 1/8" hole through the base plate (when installed), and mag body, and JBWelded a piece of 1/8" rod through it so the base plate could not be removed. Cut the ends flush with the sides, and PRESTO! 10/30 PMAG goodness.

Thanks to the OP for the idea, and others for the improvements to a great idea.

                          I updated the first post

( ** I have been told by a couple people that on the new PMags this is too long and they are making their rods 4-5/8" long. I have not confirmed this. I would make the rod long. Reassemble and test. Cut a little off and repeat until it holds ten and only ten***)

I did ten mags the other night and shot all of them yesterday. 4 5/8" on the new style mags gives you exactly ten rounds and leaves just barely enough room to get the baseplate off.

I used 3/8" OD aluminum round and 3/32" roll pins with a 3/32" drill bit for the roll pins through the follower and the 3/8" pin.
