80% Paper weight help

Shadow Ops has a "95%", it has a little more finishing completed than a typical 80%, would be a little easier to complete:

The only thing different between that and a standard " 80%" would be the machining of the rear takedown pin area. They are always drilled through, but not all milled out in the pocket area.

Still a lot of work to be done. I bought myself a mill for these.

I'm not picking a fight here but an 80% in not a lot of work, Granted I have a full size fully equipped machine shop at my disposal and all support tooling.

Try doing one with nothing more then the mag well broached. When I bought these from JD machine a few years back I had not idea there even was such a thing as an 80%'er

Oh I agree - if you know what you are doing, and have the tools it is very easy. I converted my mill to CNC so that also helps. But even then you can do them in an hour on a manual mill.

You know, if the search function actually worked OK it would be one thing... but all anybody needed to say was "Unfortunately because of ATF policy changes it's no longer possible to go to somebody else's location and have them teach you how to do it. It would have to be with your tools at your location and probably helping you for free as well. Not likely unless you have a friend who's willing to do it. If you want to buy the tools to do it yourself and just need some tips let us know and I'm sure people will give you some suggestions on how to proceed."

Well the work holding comes down to. Do I want to spend a week making fixturing or do I want to be a little careful and get two knocked out quick.

As for the time... well there was vise jaws to make. a bunch of math to do and figuring out what and where to reference from. Yeah If I was doing this for production I'd fire myself for being too damn slow. But for Two parts not bad.

The $150-$250 they charge is worth every penny for the work that is done for you on an 80%

You can Buy an 80% lower at ARES Armor little pricey along with a jig to drill press out the FCG and clean up the edges. AV trophy will engrave your 80% call them first. Buy the big drill press and and small cross feed vise take your time you are not in a rush. Ask around DMRP I know one member is in progress on 2 lowers right now.
