the walton tap remover was a no go >.< broke most the fingers, so i dremeled the tap down to try adn get it as flat ontop as possible so all the fingers are supported. i ordered new fingers then this time i broke two off in the hole to where i cant get them out and bent the other two.

just ordered a psl gas block off gun broker for 18. so looks like ill be pressing off the front sight and gas block. since ill have to do some work on the barrel i was kicking around the thoughts of cutting the barrel down to 20-22" what is your guys thoughts?

Thats why I said if the tap extractor would work the thing is not that tight to begin with.

As for barrel length no shorter then 20". This keeps the barrel long enough to handle the round without becoming a flame thrower.

i was thinking just enough to remove the bayonet lug from the barrel, wont ever use it. just need to decide on which will be cheaper do the work my self or see how much a gun smith will charge.

i want to keep it above 20" as i love the look of the longer barrel. i just want to remove enough to get ride of the bayonet lugs.

anyone know a good gunsmith that will be able to replace my gas block, cut the barrel, reinstall front sight block, thread and crown for a reasonable price. right now pricing everything out it will cost me 140ish for all the parts to do the work my self.

Yep - they very rarely work, we got rid of our EDM so I use some old end mills and bore it out, the taps are carbide as well so you're going to destroy the tooling but it will get it out if an EDM is not available.

Last broken tap I extracted was on a aluminum block and I hit it with my plasma cutter. It removed it perfectly. With no damage to the threads I dont no how skilled you are with a plasma or if you have access to one. There are also lazer removal services. Or like ar15 barrels said throw a new one at it and be done

i have a plasma cutter in the garage but theirs no way i can get the tip close enough to remove the tap.

i just finished removing the front sight, bayonet lug, and gas block from the rifle. i tried drilling the tap out from the other side with no avail.

ive ordered a new gas block off gun broker but it will be a while before it gets here.

Got my fixed gas block back from SJgunguy24 and everything is great now.

i finished drilling the set screws last night on the lathe at school and s how she repopulated the barrel this morning.

                              heres how she looks now.
