Could heat it with a torch on the outside lightly...

            Lube it penetration oil.

            Torque it off!

A few weeks ago I took him a stainless barrel that had the tip of a drill bit broken off in the gas port.

Not only did he zap it out with his EDM, but he finished the hole and barely charged me anything.

                  Yikes.

I imagine it takes him longer to disintegrate a tap because of the material it's made out of.

Anyway, good luck and let us know what happens.

Why not pick up another gas block? Probably be much cheaper and faster. And it'll be easier to run the tap up from the bottom with it off the barrel.

I was gonna suggest that you remove the gas block from the barrel as that would make the setup a LOT easier.
Is the tap only in the gas block, or is it spanning the gas block and barrel?

I think it's only in the gas block. That's what the mod calls for. Personally, I would've removed the gas block off the barrel, tap the gas port and press the gas block back onto the barrel.
