Just bought a Romy G kit. Which Flat?

Just picked up a Romy G kit at GB for what seems to be the current going rate: http://www.gunbroker.com/Auction/Vie...Item=263381527

I see there are a couple of AK builder flats for Romanian AK's. One has predrilled trunnion holes, one does not. (When I built my Bulgy AK-74 there were no trunnion holes). So which is the correct one to get?

By the way, this will be AK number 3 - that's 3 in 4 weeks. Must stop. Need to stop.

When I did my Romy build I bought one of each because the pre-drilled ones can be off sometimes and it can take longer to fix than to just make your own trunnion holes, but you might get lucky so it's worth a shot. My pre-drilled one didn't line up so I just used the other one.

I'm not sure but I know that it can be a minor pain in the *** to enlarge the pre-drilled holes if they don't line up.

I plan on trying one where I use the front trunnion as a guide to drill one side before I fold the flat and then after it is folded drill through the other side. I think that might be a good way to get everything to line up but I haven't tried it yet...

Have to agree on the pre-drilled flats, they seldom line up correctly. I prefer to use the front and rear trunnions as the guides and drill a non drilled flat, you end up with a better fit IMO, and they are actually less work than getting a rat tail file and 'correcting' the pre-drilled holes.

On the contrary, they have been really great for the standard Romy G kits. Minor fitting is required, just as much as when we use the trunnion hole locator to first drill the holes in the receiver. It's such a small amount of overlap that the rivet head will cover it. Egyptian kits on the other hand do no match up well.

Oh there's another option... alignment holes. On his website, Curtis says:

            "Alignment Hole Option
If you are using my new bending die you DO NOT need the alignment holes. The alignment holes are for the outdated bending tools."

Which bending tool will be available at the build party on presidents day weekend? Toes - which one do you have?

Get the the predrilled flat without the alignment holes. I have had very good luck with the holes lining up pretty well.

We all have the jig that does not use alignment holes.

I ordered the one with the alignment holes, should I have purchased the other one or will it still work? Maybe I should have inquired about that before hand.

It will still work. The new jig uses the magazine well and one pin hole near the pistol grip nut cut out to lock in the flat.

It'll be fine, you'll just have two extra holes on the bottom of the receiver. No biggy.

If you like, we will have a welder on sight and can weld up those holes for you.

The link you provided shows the kit comes with a flat already. Unless it's a Tapco, just use the one it comes with.

looking at the picture, it is indeed a tapco flat....might be good for welding practice.
