    Ak Cycle/Trigger Problem Solved

    Hey Fellas,

Purchased a few AMD kits from Curtis and all three having same problems. The bolt carrier will cycle but the trigger does not get reset. The bolt does cycle back and forward and doesn't get stuck at all but again the trigger does not reset.

Has anyone had this issue or know what could have caused it? Maybe the gas port was not drilled to the proper size or is it possible we put the trigger in wrong by some miracle? We used the Tapco triggers and have not had an issue with any of the other builds with this type of problem.

The kits did come with Virgin barrels but Curtis headspaced etc...

    Any thoughts input is appreciated.

    Thanks

So, when you shoot the rifle/pistol, the bolt carrier is not being sent far enough back to "reset" the trigger, is that what your saying?

yes thats correct Turboelky.I was with Aerospace testing the AMDs tonight. It would fire and cycle fine but wouldnt reset the trigger to fire again. Extraction is fine. If you manually cycle a little past the extractor it resets but during firing it doesn't. Funny thing is all 3 have the same problems.

Put some vertical strips of masking tape down the side of the bolt opening to see how far the bolt goes during fire. The bolt handle should pretty much rip all the pieces of tape heading back. If not you have some sort of friction interference or a small gas port/gas issues.

              I agree.

If it was a bolt carrier problem, I don't think it would cock the hammer in the first place. Do a function check, and take a good look at the disconnecter. Make sure it's catching the hammer, and transferring to the trigger hook properly.

thats the thing if I bring the slide back manually everything is fine, catches and holds everytime. even manually cocking back the trigger it catches and holds easily. After shooting around 50 rounds it would catch and cycle every maybe 2-4 rounds.

have you tried hand cycling it? will the trigger stay back? if yes its some sort of problem with it not cycling far back enough, if no, then you got a trigger problem, does the primer show a dent in it after the trigger won't stay back?

I'm thinking more of a gas port problem, only because it's happening to all 3 AMDs. I will maybe try the masking tape diagnosis the next time out. They are populated US barrels so maybe the hole for the gas was not drilled out big enough?

Is your gas port lined up properly?

                            Gas Port

What is the gas port supposed to be drilled out to? What size drill bit? My buddies pistil from Ak builder does not have a hole drilled in the barrel at all. I assumed AK builder would drill the ports and barrel so we did not drill either the port or the barrel.

Our other kits were original barrels so never had to drill the port or barrel before. How do you line it up and how far do you drill through etc..?

I'm thinking that has to be the problem because the trigger resets just fine when we rack the carrier by hand.

I looked at the gas port and it's drilled out so I'm assuming the barrel is also drilled out because the bolt does cycle. How do I know if it's not aligned and would that cause the carrier not to completly cycle all the way back? if it was a problem with the disconnector wouldn't it still be an issue when we rack it by hand? That's going to be really embarasing if it's a trigger issue. I'll post pictures in a few of the trigger assembley.
