Im going for the old look, but im sure more coats of blue would darken it, but I would recommend media blasting everything for a more even finish on all parts unless you paint it.
Thats good advice. My goal in this build is to make it look like a Lancaster with cherry wood stocks. Now I just need to find a build party

Im the type of person that hates to wait, so I went with this flat above.

Took around 8 hours to do this flat, but it was my first time and I was being extra careful. Its a very nice kit.
      Chunky,

This is still a kind of 80% flat, right? No FFL?

It looks like a great way to go for anyone wishing to skip bending but still make your own receiver.

your correct, but someone always chimes in saying that one day the atf or someone will come barging in wanting the receiver because its not a 80% flat, since it has the rails spot welded in already. I say then prove the receiver I have is from that place, there is no way they could, no marking on it anywhere, its blank. still a ton of work getting it ready for use, but I would definitively get another one

chunk, 80% is a figure of speech. the real atf ruling is a gun or not a gun. generally the mfr. submits sample(s) to tech branch for a ruling/letter. occaisionally, atf has changed it's mind over non-gun status (1919 sideplates). then they do come get 'em. bent blanks are safe.

be alert though, the black zepplins are totally silent.

I love the worn battlefield pickup look!

It's almost enough to overcome the lack of rivets.

            Nice job.

While the actual bending may only take 15 minutes, it's the 3 hours of fitting that kills the deal.

Hell yeah, man i've burned through 4 flats and i'm on # 5 and I think I got this one right. Rivets aren't that hard, just use clamps and have a bunch of buck bars. I got a bunch of them made from 3/16" stock up to 5/8" stock. That helps when crushing the rivets.

For me the extra $50 was worth the cost, instead of buying a press, or making a tool to fold the flat, and also the expense of a spot welder. Got mine done on one shot never made one before around 15 hours total from start to finish.

I built my first and only AK from a flat in about 10 hours.
                      It works fine.

IIRC there was a company that made sideplates for the 1919, then the ATF ruled that it was past 80%, went and found all the people that the sideplates were sold to and took sideplates with parts kits attached.

Im sure they will have a hard time proving which flat is being used as the come unmarked, unless there is a secret stamp on them I havent seen. Who said I didnt sell it, or ruined it and made another one. Never know maybe the one I bought did get ruined and I bent up the one I have now, was just ashamed to admit it.

true, but dont doubt the long reach of the ATF

is there a link for this story? did they take any other builds besides the 1919?
