Next time, take a center punch to your crossed lines so you have a nice solid dimple.
When you drop the spinning drill bit into the center punch mark, the drill bit will pull towards the CENTER of the center punch mark (hence why it's called a center punch!).
Use the movement of the spinning drill bit as an indicator on which direction you need to tap-tap-tap the drill press vise until you are NOT getting any dril bit deflection as the drill bit touches down.

For really precise work I stopped doing this. I can't locate the center punch by hand accurately enough. Whereas if I just use the drill bit to touch the surface, it'll make a small mark in the Dyechem that I can see. Using that, I can adjust the work until the bit lands exactly where I want it on the scribed cross hairs.

You can see this in the photo. There are multiple touchdown marks on the rail where I "walked" the bit forward.
