    Mini 14 Muzzle Brake

I'd like to have my Ruger Mini 14 (older model, skinny barrel) barrel threaded to accept standard 5.56 AR brakes - can this be done, who does it?

I had it done on my 10/22. Counter bored the muzzle and pressed in a .550 piece of SS round stock. TIG welded and turned down to .50 so my machinist friend could single point thread it to 1/2 28. It might be a little harder as you will have to find a 'smith pull your barrel.

Do you have a magazine locking device for it? I haven't seen any advertised. Make you own?
      all the best,

There are some people that it's just not worth engaging.

It's a muzzle BRAKE, not a muzzle break. Or is your muzzle tired?

so once a muzzle break is added to a mini 14 it requires a mag lock?

So long as the item is a muzzle break (not a flash hider), it would be legal to install (so long as the rest of the rifle is stock). Remember AWB is about number of characteristics. Don't go over the number.

That being said, be sure it is in fact a muzzle break as that doesn't add to the number. And there's lies the problem as some flash hiders are marketed as breaks, or breaks and flash hiders.

The key is making sure the hole at the end is just a little larger than the bullet needs to pass. (Not being clear as I got to rush out the door. I'll check back later).

Out in Modesto (Sierra Arms), they have a smith (CRTguns) who does a lot of mini 14's. He can do the work for you (including a heavier barrel if you like) if you want professional work on installation.

The break needs to be permanently attached as well if you thread the barrel.

                      Nope.
Threads by themselves are not evil features on rifles.

You only have to pin it if the barrle is under 16" with out it.
