First time builder long time shooter

I am starting my new project (a AR15) i am in the Marines and thus have been shooting them (or a very close cousin m16 and m4) for a little over ten years i need some good advice about CA laws, best place to buy parts and possible suggestions of parts. As of right now i am looking at getting a kaiser oll from a local gunshop here in the san diego area for $317 and this is my starting point. any suggestions

oh yeah i know a lot of acronyms but i am kinda wetoddit with some of the ones i have been seeing on the forums it took me a day and a phone call to figure out what a "oll" was..

For parts I would check the for sale forum.
sigpicIf you loan someone twenty dollars and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

If you can travel to San Bernardino county, I'll walk you through everything. Will be building a rifle shortly.

If you shop well, you should be able to find a stripped lower for $120 - $175, depending upon the manufacturer. DROS fees should be ~$35 or so. If I were you, I'd stick to a budget no higher than $200 for the lower and transfer fees, and at that price I'd look for a well-respected name stamped somewhere on it.

If you'd like, I'll hunt down some deals for you. Shoot me a PM if you are interested. Nothing beats helping a fellow hard charger out.

Several decent name-brand lowers can be had for less than $250 OTD..... This means hard part, DROS, and tax included.

You mean DROS. Long guns are not registered supposedly.

For $300, that lower should come with a lower parts kit and possibly a bullet button as well. If it doesn't, I think I heard that you can buy directly from Kaiser in SD (or at least ask them how you should buy).

As a Marine, I'm sure you have legally acquired several standard capacity magazines for the AR. If you want to use them as-is, you will need to do a featureless build. You will need a Monsterman grip or a U-15 stock to go featureless.

If you want a flash hider or pistol grip (and a few other things), you'll need to use a fixed 10 round magazine. I like the bullet button to fix the magazine and the Mini Freelock kit is a nice upgrade for it.

There are several "good places" to buy AR parts, the problem is finding the parts you want in stock somewhere. It's tough and you will have to do some digging. You will pay more than you should have to also.

I hear that Kaiser does some work for Spikes Tactical, so if you want an upper that matches the anodizing of your lower, that's a pretty good place to look. I have a Spikes Upper and I am quite pleased with it.

its funny i neglect the fact sometimes that having 30 rd mags for the rifle and 15 for the pistol is not the norm and civies cant do that well "legally"
