Thank you both for the links. So it would be fair to say going that route would cost close to a grand or more depending on parts just for frame slide barrel and small parts. Even so it would be worth it to have the learning process and piece it together over time.

I have about 1200 ish or more in my limited 10 2011. Maybe closer to 2k.. it adds up quick. Mags are the killer IMHO. 9mm 140mm STI mags and mag bodies are in short supply. I just replaced my old ones and the replacements should have cost me 140ish each, I got the for 100 bucks each, 140mm 9mm bodies with Grams springs and followers and milled Dawson baseplates, holds 23 9mm and are already tuned. That's a lot but my old ones were 15 or so years old and just would not"tune " anymore.

IF you could buy a new one from Brazos you are looking at $3500 after tax & DROS. An STI DVC Limited is $3K and an Edge is about $2250 I'd guess.

So I figure I'm around $1600 into this not counting the jigs & tooling. I've chosen some pretty high end parts so that price is certainly on the high side. Once I get it complete with finish I'm guessing I will be at $1900. I'm OK with that.

I plan on making at least 3 more 1911 pattern guns and probably another 2 2011 so the jigs and tooling average out to less that $100 per gun.

And I will say that the pure enjoyment from fitting a barrel was worth every penny.

Look to spend around $1,650 w/ high quality parts, Including
the frame and jig/fixture...

But, doing it your self and doing it right is nearly priceless....

Also, keep in mind you will need specific 1911/2011 tools and
fixtures to get the job done correctly, which add to the total
upfront cost(s)...

So, bottom line in total Investment it will cost you around $2K
or so. Still cheaper than buying one at around $3K...

Carryover dimensions from beefing up the aluminum frames. We left it that way once we noticed some slides don't have their rails cut centered, off by up to .010 in prominent manufacturers. something many people don't check for.

Too wide is not a convienience, its a pain. If we are buying 80% frames (I bought 4 from you) its because we don't have access to CNC full time. I don't have the ability to fix this without a CNC. I'm not going to file .015 off each side to make it match the widest slide on the market.

These were designed by STI, for STI slides, which measure about .928 wide on the dozens I have in house.

Other manufacturers followed suit, including us.

Who else makes a frame wider than any slide on the market? Not STI, not Fusion. Who makes a .935 slide?

I love the look or I wouldn't have bought 4. It keeps coming up every time there is a 2011 build, so obviously I'm not the only one that is surprised. Maybe most people like it, but nobody should be surprised.

In my opinion you should disclose on your website that they need to be fitted for width to match the slide of your choice. Thats all I am saying.

The barrel is in.



I went with a Barsto semi fit. It required a far amount of fitting to the Caspian slide. Nothing that could not be accomplished with a file and stone but fitting none the less.

Nuggethunter, I'm speaking from experience of owning 2011 frames from every manufacturer in LWD form, and having built up TONS of 2011 frames during the SSE 1.0 days.

.930 is typical spec for a long wide dustcover. This matches the PT, CK and is a little over the .927 STI frames I have. I know what they measure because I own them all, and LOTS of frames crossed my shop through SSE 1.0. The last 200 we made came in between .929-.931.

To answer your question, everybody that makes a LWD 2011 frame makes them bigger than any slide on the market. You're upset with the very nature of what a LWD frame is, that's reality.
