    Help with 80%

Hi guys, it's been a while since I've been active here. New baby and all that follows...
I have a problem with a 80% lower that I finished with a CNC. This is not my 1st 80% lower I've done. I installed my Fire Control parts and noticed that the safety will not engage when the hammer is cocked. It only rotates about 15 degrees. The strange thing is when I remove the hammer completely the safety rotates fully 90 degrees from fire to safe. Any and all comments and suggestions are welcomed. Lastly if anyone can recommend a GREAT gunsmith in the LA/OC area I would greatly appreciate it.

You could have a burr on the detent or possibly the whole thing was drilled to low?

I was thinking it was drilled too low. I'm going to mic it out tomorrow. Funny thing is the other 80% I've done manually work fine...figures!

I would say that the holes are off. If they are not lined up right there is not enough clearance for the safety to engage. You can carefully file the safety lever to clear and engage the safety.... but then you have a safety that is specific to that lower.

take a pic of the side with the holes and a ruler

maybe the sear area of the hammer could be filed up a bit higher so the trigger will reset higher

Milspec trigger? Do the lower parts belong together?
Sounds like the hammer is too low (or safety is too low), and its pushing the rear of the trigger up too much.

It's a Geissele super 3 gun trigger. I'm 100% sure there is nothing wrong with trigger group.

I believe he is talking about a 1911 and the trigger has nothing to do with the Hammer. The Trigger actuates the Disconnecter/ Sear combination and doesn't even touch the Hammer.
You may have to file a bit on the top of the Thumb Safety that is bumping against the Hammer. (Its a 1911 and Most everything is hand fitted)

Ahh. I assumed AR since the OP referred to it as a lower.

Darn now that you say that I all comes flooding back into my mind.... Check the depth of your trigger pocket. If it is not deep enough then the safety will do just what you are having happen. Take a look with the upper off and see if the bottom of the trigger mechanism is hitting the floor of the pocket.

It's an AR, NOT 1911... thanks

Check the depth of the the FCG pocket if it is a little shallow could be that the trigger tail is not dropping far enough for the safety to rotate.

Make sure the trigger pocket is milled at least 1.25" deep
