So i'm totally confused. I'm from Kansas but my family's from cali. Interested in job seeking in Cali but what precludes me is the gun laws of the Republic of California.

Just recently I was watching some youtube videos about the Bay Area Rifle Championships (BARC). How in the heck do you guys have rifles like those there? I don't get it . I also saw this girl named Jessica Hook shooting at the BARC. She clearly has a non California compliant custom AR by Citizen Arms. Looking at the AR it appears to not have a bullet mag release (or whatever you guys call it), has no foregrip or flash hider but it does have pistol grip and collapsible/adjustable stock with the surefire 60 round mag.

I thought I had a handle on the gun laws in Cali. Please clarify.

The laws now are bad, but the next Democrat to become guvnah will sign ALL gun control bills. In 5-10 years, you'll wish you never came here.

IF you had them prior to 2000 and registered them you can run them as normal. There are also some competition exemptions you can get. But I am guessing it was the former she was using.

Well after posting the topic under the Politics section to no avail, I was hopping some avid competitor from California would shine some light on it.

I don't believe one of the competitors had her rifle prior to 2000, as from my research, jessica hook only began competing about 2-3 years ago.

Notice these guys running the Surefire 60 round mags or, in Jojo's case, something else looking like a elongated, G.I. width mag. So how...?

Just because she didn't doesn't mean it isn't a lower that belongs to someone else that is registered. But I really don't know, it is all just speculation. Magazines are all over the place, a 60rd surefire mag is definitely a bit of an oddity, legal or not, I don't know.

Someone earlier in this forum said californians are rude and have no "sense of community." Clearly i agree. Except for the moderator and frankm of course; thank you for being understanding. If you are traveling here you don't have many options. 1 is to borrow gear while here. This is why we don't have national matches in CA.

I may not be answering your question, but in addition to the grandfathering, note that prior to 1/1/2014, Californians were able to purchase magazine parts through rebuild kits. The statute governing magazine capacity limits prohibits manufacture, importation, sale, transfer, etc., of standard capacity magazines, but does not prohibit their use. Also, I VAGUELY remember some exceptions for competitions (such as lending magazines to another competitor for his/her use, but don't hold me to this!).

I'll let you draw your own conclusions from this, but you can see that it's not impossible to own standard capacity magazines. When I see people with them, I don't think about it much and just assume they acquired them in compliance with the law.

JV's been shooting in CA forever, so even if he weren't in the business he'd have lots of registered stuff.

Citizen Arms is not based in CA, so that photo probably wasn't taken here.

Comply with all laws, go featureless and you won't have to use a bullet button.
