So I take it there is no problem getting DG certification on the lower level classes, the restriction on alternate sighting systems only applies to the Handgun Combat Master certification?

I wish today's liberals could understand: You cannot be generous by giving away other peoples' money and you cannot demonstrate your virtue by your willingness to give up other peoples' rights.
The more time I spend on this forum, the more sense kcbrown makes.

I also asked the question of the ammo constraint... The response I got then was that what you will be using in a tactical/defensive situation. Me thinks - if that were the case, why do we shoot with FMJ instead of +Ps then...
In the end - their shop, their rules... Although I would believe that the observation that the test takes care of itself... The test is really difficult that any "mods," etc. is not enough to give a sufficient advantage to pass the test.
Hence, to be more precise - you can shoot the test with an RDS. It is just that your score will NOT count if you did have less than a down 40. The recommendation then was to take the test with an RDS and see for one's self how difficult the test would be, even with a red dot.

I've run Federal HST ammo for the class. It's good ammo and I happen to have cases of it that I got for a great price.
Well, of course that's the point I would make to them. If I'm going to carry an RDS or a laser then why not train and test with it? I have not made any decisions regarding either system, but I'm leaning toward an RDS. My feeling is that certificates of achievement and passing tests have no real practical value to me, just nice things for my ego. If I have to choose between training how I carry which would be the most useful, and getting a certificate and a ranking, I'm going to favor the most effective training.
HCM is a test of skill. IMO, that's all it is. In that test of skill, the playing field is designed to be level to remove any potential unfair advantage a shooter may have to ensure an objective test.Comment

Finished the 2-Day Skill Builder today. Got my first DG.
Weather was surprisingly nice. 99F the first day and cloudy. Day 2 was 90F, cloudy and it even rained off and on.
Went into the malfunctions and reloads 12 points down. Luckily got through the malfunctions and reloads clean.
Have had others say a DG is a joke and nothing to be proud of, but as someone who picked up a firearm for the first time 15 months ago, this was my fifth class over the last 15 months and I practice a lot. Ive improved every time I’ve been out there.
Used my Glock 17 this time. I used it in March for a 4DDHG and didn’t shoot it that well, but loved it for the malfunctions and reloads. I had already installed a Vickers extended mag release (game changer for a Gen3) and a Glock extended slide stop, which was another subtle but noticeable improvement over the stock slide stop. Had Hackathorn sights in March. Switched them out for a set Heinie Straight 8 sights and have to say I wish they made these for every handgun I own. These sights are hands down awesome. I found them much easier and quicker than a 3 dot set up. Allowed me to concentrate on the front sight much easier without any distraction from the usual two dots on the rear sight. I found myself getting my sight picture much faster. This was also the first time I was able to actually make one ragged hole on the ragged hole exercise. Also installed a Glock “-“ connector. The Heinie sights and “-“ connector took that firearm to a whole new level for me.
Since the last class I also installed an Agency Arms magwell. This is a very low profile magwell and doesn’t look like one of those giant funnels used in competitions. Put Vickers base plates on all my magazines. This was a fantastic combo. The base plates are especially nice when you may not lock your slide back on a Type 3 malfunction because they allow you to very easily grip and rip out the magazine. Even easier than stripping a stuck magazine with a stock baseplate and no magwell. They’re flared out just a little with finger grooves that are much nicer than the stock Glock baseplates.
All in all I really like this combo for these classes and considering picking up another Glock 17 as a backup and setting it up exactly the same. In previous classes I’ve used a Beretta 92FS and a 9mm Springfield 1911 and hands down the Glock set up I have now is my favorite.Last edited by Vinnie Boombatz; 06-24-2021, 7:06 AM.sigpicComment

We had a recent discussion in this thread specifically about shell holders. Without searching for it, I believe the general consensus was a soft carrier, velcro mount, on the side of the body of the gun was the most versatile. When I took 4 day shotgun, that is what the instructor ran.Boston Strong!

I also have Emdom M4 mag pouches that the shotgun cards conveniently fit into.
Emdom/MM M4 IAP (Immediate Access Pouch) is designed as a low profile, open top, immediate access, low capacity 20 or standard capacity 30 round AR-15/M4/M16 magazine (USGI, HK, Magpul, Troy, TangoDown, Lancer, etc.) pouch. The M4 IAP can be mounted to any MOLLE/PALS platform or belt up to 2.75' wide.Comment

I have quite a few of the Velcro shotshell holders from Browncoat tactical and a couple of California Competition Works shell caddies that are belt mounted. Looks like Safariland makes really nice belt mounted shell carriers but they’re expensive.sigpicComment

Does anyone have any idea of how many FS Patronage Points exist?
Does anyone have any idea how many Frontsight Patronage Points exist currently? Does anyone want to share what they have in Points? Can you transfer Patronage Points among Members? Can anyone asked Dr. Piazza at the July 4th Meeting about this? When is the Property going to be transferred to the COOP Members? When are we breaking Ground on Villas and Hotel when does the Development startup again?Comment
