The day you leave for FS always seems to be the longest work day.
Let's hope today goes by quickly.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

Finally had a chance to take the Tactical Handgun class this week (Tues / Wed).

Class was great! Had some really impressive shooters and a great instructional staff. Our RM was Jon Reynolds (HCM) and he ran a good range. He knew his stuff and kept the class going at a good pace and always safe. Matt Jeng was one of the instructors and I've always found him to be a really good RM/Instructor.

Day 1 started off a little slower than I had anticipated but I attribute that to all the new techniques being taught. Oh, and I was quite surprised the morning of Day 1 when we were told the entire class was to be shot with concealment. I'd left my 5.11 vest at home but luckily I had a light jacket with me that I could use for concealment.
The RM's weren't too strict on the concealment and many of us took it off from time to time since the test isn't shot with concealment so I wanted to practice with and without it.
Normal range activities went until about 5 o'clock followed by a quick dinner break and flashlight lecture before getting back out on the range.
Night shoot was a lot of fun and thanks to the full moon, we had plenty of ambient light during the shoot house.
Think we were done right around 8:30 pm.

Day 2 really is all about the test which I can see that being frustrating for some students as they want to learn more techniques as opposed to just prepping for a skills test but I didn't mind as it helped us ramp up our speeds and most of us had no problems passing the test.

All in all, a long two days that went by quickly but I really enjoyed my first time taking the class. I got into a good shooting groove right before the test and shot it only down 14 going into the Multi's. I thought for sure I had the DG in the bag but then it all went down hill. Fast. Multi's cost me another 14 points and I cleared the malfunctions clean. Looks like I need to practice the multiples a bit more before going back.
Looking forward to going back and trying to DG the test but until then, I'm probably off to go get humbled at HCMP in April.

Do you think an external safety pistol would be a hindrance?

I think you'd be fine with that.
Word of advice, practice those 25 and 50M shots.

                                Commander Membership worth it?

My wife and I just finished the 4DDHG last Monday. The training was great, the class well managed and we got to hang out with like minded people for a few days. Made a few local friends to shoot with later and fired 750 rounds each in four days. How can that be a bad thing? Now for the reason I paid my $1,500.00 for my Commander membership. My six children and their spouses along with my eleven grandsons, (no granddaughters yet dangit), will all be trained and armed for the rest of their lives. Having been taken hostage in an armed robbery I know how fast things can go south. I hope if any of my loved ones, or friends, ever face that I want them to at least have a chance at a vote in how it goes down. If that is not worth $1,500.00 I can't imagine what is. I plan on donating my memberships wherever I choose. I met a LEO at Starbucks Wed. and as we talked it came out he would use a membership so I gave him one. Don't we need more well armed, well trained citizens. Besides, Pahrump is a little far from the beach for my TS.
