Great info. I think you have to buy your ammo at Front Sight to use for any rental guns if I understand it correctly.

Yes but the prices are actually good yeah you can find better online but it's not by a ton. The prices are pretty much Walmart prices for good name brand stuff.

Advanced long gun now has a description and some dates. But as I guessed you need to DG rifle and shotgun to take it. Still is yellow though and not fixed. Sign up by pdf anyway though but we'll see how long it takes to get fixed.

So yeah now to get to scenarios you have to DG all three disciplines then get a G in advanced tactical handgun and attend Long gun Tactical. How long before there is a test for long gun tactical and you have to G it and then they bump up handgun tactical to DG. I'll tell you how long. Just before we all achieve the pre reqs.

So for the average person, DG'ing a class will usually take more than one pass. So if assume it takes 2.5 tries through the class to DG, that is 7.5 classes to get the three required DGs. Then assume 2.5 more classes to get through Advanced Tactical Handgun and Long Gun Tactical, that brings it to 10 classes.

Assuming someone that gets to FS two times annually for a class, this means you have 5 years of classes before you can take the scenarios classes. Given the changes of the Advanced Tactical Handgun class to accommodate the stuff from the 4-day handgun class, this means 5 years until you get to serious tactical training. Not to mention any of the other classes you might want to take.

                  Hmmm . . .

Ding ding ding. Great beginner school and the martial arts and ropes are cool. Kids stuff is awesome too.

Thing is that it takes too long and is too difficult to get to the serious advanced stuff. Now you don't want a novice doing the advanced stuff and endangering others on the range and they need to build the basics first. Should be like old and G gets you to the next level. DG should just be a badge of distinction or something. G is plenty competent and ready to practice for real world non static line situations. DG just means you are that much better. Some people are great but simply can't go that fast with physical limitations. All about the money though.

I guess the good news is I learn every time I go out there and it looks like there are more opportunities to learn. I enjoy my time there.

I agree with this. I've seen a few older gentlemen that kicks my butt on rifle shooting. but because they couldn't go prone at 100 (some can barely go to kneeling, even then that took 5+ seconds), they can't DG.

One thing I like about Front Sight is that when you do take a class, the students are usually squared away for the class level. That is the trade-off. I have taken some of the high-speed, low-drag classes by other instructors and some students don't even have basic gun handling skills squared away. This becomes a problem in the class.

Maybe you. For me I don't. I may build skills on something I already know if I repeat a class but that doesn't teach something new.

Again someone who is a G is accurate enough. Maybe was slow that day or dropped a mag during a malfunction drill. Well all they are learning is controlled pairs and head shots from a static line.

They get into a real fight and it's up close and they haven't learned Palm strike step back. Or 5 feet away there is a steel box or something to take cover behind and advance to while shooting. Nice they stand there on a static line and end up a bullet sponge. Hey at least they took someone down with them.

That's my point. Can't let the unsafe and unskilled into the upper classes but it shouldn't be blocked off unless you can score the ridiculously high DG score.

I guarantee you this wouldn't be the case if it actually cost a grand for a 4 day course. Heck I bet if someone offered to pay that much they'd wave some pre reqs and tell them to keep it hush.

I agree there. That's why I'm saying no problem students but go back to a G to move on instead of DG.

Exactly. I'm a DG shooter, I can blast the snot out of the target and in time on the first day, but when the test comes around I'm either spent or jacked up in the head (usually in a valley)and miss DG. So unless I go full agro and concentrate souly to DG the test ( which equates to not enjoying the weekend or having fun) I'll be stuck in the bottom classes.
We'll just give them the 'ol number 6.
