Casting Silver Bullets

Maybe a symbol or someones name on the meplat, that way my dad could say "ive got a bullet with your name on it" or something like that. What im i talking about, thats a terrible idea, if he ever had to shoot that person he would get a murder charge for sure.

I don't have pictures for this one, but I;ve got GREAT ideas for this one too.

So, to seat gas checks on stubborn boolits I made a nice jig. A ring of aluminum bored to .453 with a wider lip on one side that catches a gas check, just. Slip the check on one side, slip the boolit in base side first from the other side, and tap with a small mallet.

Now, this deforms the nose of the boolit, so you need a flat punch and are good to go.

Well, you can get letter punches from harbor freight, that would simultaneously seat the check and punch a letter in the meplat. Why have I not done this already?

...... Because I am holding out until I find a .3" diameter punch of a smiley face. colon and parentheses is sufficient. Sure would make for funny revolver pictures.

I may add checkering later with a mill or have one of my artisans try his hand at it, honestly for silver or ivory grips Ive always like the flat high polish grips from old westerns.

The gold monogram is a capital idea and wouldn't be too expensive.

Yes for cowboy guns smooth grips are the thing as when firing the pistol rocks in your hand. A 1911 not so much.

Get a box of Liberty Civil Defense. The aren't really silver, but they look like it. And you can shoot them (although it's a +P load IIRC)

Not the point. Using a silver bullet is key to the insanity defense plea when you claim that your wife was in fact a werewolf.

Started running into problems with casting. The sprue is finicky and wouldn't fill the entire cavity evenly for such a large piece. Thinking of adding 3 or 4 sprues to help fill the cavity evenly.

Will post pics and updates when I get it all figured out

Since everybody else is being selfish and just offering advice, I'd like to be the gentleman and say I will save you all the trouble of casting and slinging that silver through your barrel... just ship all your silver to me and I'll save you all that heart ache

As I suspected the holes didn't match up, good thing I had my guys cast a blank slate so we could drill holes later.

The initals were also separated and cast separately, to be soldered later. Ill cast the other side, then they will be tumbled and polished before having the holes drilled.

Also will likely have an artisan add some checkering to the grips just before polishing.

Ill update with photos of the finished product.

Ok, the grips are done! did away with the silver bullet idea, too much of a hassle.

We cast a pair with holes and a pair without, we ended up using the pair without holes and drilling new ones.



From there they were cleaned up and polished, but they were really slippery in the hand. I decided to put on a brushed finish to add some grip:



They were still very slippery, so I decided to go back to a high polish, but with a hammered finish. Its easier for jewelers to do than checkering, while making it look more like jewelry than a grip.





We also decided against the raised initials, even though we had them cast and ready to go. It just looks so much better with the hammered finish
