Any surplus ammo still available? -ANY caliber?

Just wondering if there are any amazing surplus ammo deals that are still available? Wouldn't mind purchasing an odd caliber gun if I could find a LOT of cheap surplus ammo....

Kinda like the 7.62x25 used to be..... Anything at all?

During the height of the ammo panic, you could get that good 7N6 ammo for less than .22lr. But, that's no more--thanks Obama!

          What about the 5.45X39?

          "Russian 5.45x39 53grn FMJ 1,080rd Can - $169.95"

16 cents a round for centerfire rifle ammo is pretty cheap plinking.

I think you mean Clinton. The law that stopped 7n6 imports was already in before Obama took office.

Widener's sells lots of surplus of all kinds, just depends on what they get weekly.

For the most part, Russian/com bloc ammo is all that is really left of the cheap, steady supply of surplus ammo. You can still find other rounds like 8mm and .303, but they aren't as readily available and not as cheap as the com bloc ammo.

Mosin Nagant's are very inexpensive and you have several models to choose from. Stock up on a few crates of 7.62x54R surplus and you'll be shooting it for years before you have to restock your ammo supply.

Kokopelli, where are you seeing the 5.45x39 for $169.95? Haven't seen that price since before the ban. Most places want well over $200 /can now.

7.5 swiss can still be had for .50-.55 cents a round, this is match grade ammo, very well made stuff. A K31 can still be had for around 350, a great rifle in its own right.

Have an almost-full can of 7.62x25 and only just bought a Tokarev TTC pistol. I bought the ammo years ago with getting the pistol in mind, just never did. Shot a little bit of it with a chamber insert in my mosins, which is fun, but kind of a hassle. Now I've got the pistol so game on! 7.62x54r is still out there, if not as cheap as it used to be. 8mm mauser and .303 brit pop up occasionally still too.

+1 on 7.62x54R. Given the ammo situation today, that's not a bad price over at JGSales, as long as the shipping isn't excessive. I'd suggest four or five spam cans, and unless you're firing 50 rounds several times a week, that should last you for a good, long while. Actually, at that price, if you can get more than that, go for it. Buy one or two spam cans (depending on the shipping price difference) every month for, say, 6 months to a year, and you'll be set.

Regarding the Swiss ammo, yes, it's good, yes, it's match, but that brass is Berdan primed. I'd rather go Prvi Partizan Boxer-primed rounds and develop my own "match ammo" load.
