Lee Classic Turret -- Extra part??

I've finally got around to mounting up my press now that powders are starting to become available. In the little parts baggie with the primer arms and handle mount, there is a little square plastic thing. What the heck is it and where does it go?? Is it a spare part? A piece of broken off part?

it's an extra indexing rod bushing. the bushing eventually wears out and it is replaceable. keep it on hand for when you need it.

Don't know why its not made of metal Used up my spare and been meaning on looking for one made of metal.

It's a sacrificial part. If something bad happens better for the little cheap square to get wiped out than anything important/expensive. They last a long time if you're careful to only rotate the turret when the whole assembly with the shell holder is up above the twisty part of the auto index rod. That being said if you need to order something direct from Lee for some reason throw in another half dozen of them and also the plastic clamp that holds it (it's easy to strip the threads on that if you over tighten the screw).

I ordered half a dozen from Titan Reloading with some other stuff. They are only .50 cents ea and it would suck to really need one and not have it. Pick up a few spare parts to have on hand for your dies too. Most parts are fairly inexpensive and will save you a lot of grief when something breaks.

Wow. I have loaded over 5k rounds on mine so far and nothing bad has happened to that lil square... I must be an excellent reloader I guess...

It's been thousands of rounds since I last replaced the square. If you have the right habits when you change calibers or don't change calibers very often it shouldn't really get much in the way of routine wear. On the other hand early on I wiped out a couple of them very quickly - I forget what the issue was, something was binding somewhere and they can get wiped out in a moment. It's really pretty all or nothing.

Mine will never wear out, I don't use it. I like to hand index it all my rounds.
