Yep, I did that too, at first. Next time, though, it took about 5,000 rounds before it was time to replace it. A couple of spares are indeed good to have around.
That said, I've found that the fastest speeds are gotten when indexing manually and short-stroking the press except for the priming stroke. I went up from 120 rounds/hour to 150 by so doing. This is with .45 ACP.
