    Spencerville brass voltures

First I'll start it off with does this bother any other reloaders, people that are out there just to get brass and sell it. I expect when I go to Spencerville there may or not be brass but today it rubbed me the wrong way. When me and my son go he looks forward to 3 things shooting the .22 witch he likes to call the little pow pow, the cows we pass and sometimes stop to see and picking up brass and putting in a plastic teddy bear made from a old animal cracker container called "teddy". Today when we were out there a couple were picking up brass and sorting it on the spot and just leaving everything else in piles around they didn't want like steel, hulls, trash ect. That was the first chip on the shoulder as one person left, they left some .223 case on the ground so I said look brass do you want to put it in teddy, I could see that one person was already heading to get the brass what I did not expect was for them to try and get in between my son and hurry to pick up as much and fast as they could. FYI if you are ever at Spencerville and see me with my teddy I do bring the range brass he picks up to trade or give away as I don't shoot 40sw, 9 mm, and a lot of other calibers. Just ask and shoot the breeze and I'll toss a few at you deprimed and polished. This probably is a pile rubbish to a few but it made my son sad and made me grumpy

I boldly said 'mine - no touch - go away'

when that did not work I pushed them away from the shooting area. Those voltures are worse than house flies.

heh, yeah but you can swat a fly sensless and get away with it...

Yeah I hate the idea that these br*******s are running around grabbing brass just to sell. That IS one of the things that I love about going out shooting, is finding pockets of brass and picking it ALL up. I really like to find the blackened pills out in the dirt. I love picking up bullets.

When I see those goons out there they rev me in a mean, kick a baby sort of way...

Since I am a regular at Spenceville you must be talking about the husband wife duo in the white Prius and yes if gets on my nerves because they scrap the brass
they even collect the 22 rim fire
They are also collect at the clay pits

But there not the only brass only collectors at Spenceville there is a few guys that only collect brass they don't shoot ever but are there three to four times a week just for brass one of them sells his reloads the other sells the brass to reloaders

I hate to say it but I used to only take what I reloaded but when im out there now I take everything I find so they cant have it and either give it to fellow reloaders or the reloading shop I frequent

on a side note that range has become to dangerous on sat or sun mornings so I stay away and only go in the evenings still crowded

didn't even notice the r sorry phones auto incorrect. luck of having a friend named Spencer and having typed it a few times, I get if they need the few bucks I just don't get how they were acting, not shooting anything, making piles of trash with brooms and picking what they wanted up with dust pans, they where like 5 ft from the trash, why not throw it away, you have the tools to make it easy. Why don't they take the .22 brass and scrap it? just noticed i even spelled vultures wrong in the title what a flustered rant

              They do
They get .22 at the end because they know that no ones going to take it and then they get it all at once that's why they rake all the hulls up to get the .22 rimfire

last time I was there and they where there they also took one guys water bottles
he set up for his kid at the 25 yard line when he was at the 100 yard line setting up his
that guys was pissed and yet they did it again on the next clear he chased them off

I would get totally pissed and confront them if they touch my brass. The brass I use are from my own reloads and I pay for them.

What they are doing is tantamount to stealing ... especially from reloaders. I have heard stories about some ranges not allowing you to pickup your own brass. I will never go to a range that has a policy like this.

                  Spenceville Shooting Range

This place is just a horrible accident waiting to happen!

This is incredible ... and incredibly dangerous! You could not pay me any amount of money to go to a place like this ... Shooting at a place like this is just not worth it for me.

I really like having RSO's and range masters and all the other safety protocols where I frequent.

There is an easy way to stop that. I did it the last time I was there for a C&R shoot. They started to pick up my brass and I told them you pick up any brass around my table area and I will smash your hand. The guys next to me said I could have their brass so that included their area. They did not bother my area again.
A 30cal will reach out and touch them. A 50cal will kick their butt.

Safety can be improved but I think the normal times I go there is never more then 5 people and there is always a picnic table open. Typically I even try to talk to who ever is close to my area. If the vultures even touched my brass I would have gone ape s*** crazy, original 25 rem is not easy to get or even cheap. Haha clays, water bottles, with all the electronics I see out there I wonder if they try and scrap the gold and platinum out of them

OK ... How do people setup the targets out there. I am quite certain they do not walk out to setup the targets while others are shooting?

Brass flippers are the EBT users of the shooting world. I have bought thousands of cases but never sold one. Inevitably, I have picked up brass that isn't mine, but I just give it away if I don't have a use for it. I'll clean up my berdan commie ammo for recycling.

Rude people suck, when I look to pick up brass that isn't mine, I ask if they're picking theirs up. If they say yes, I don't touch, if they say no, I pick it up. What happened to common courtesy? Jeez

I am seeing a lot of this out here in the desert where I shoot. Every time I go there is always at least one person trolling for brass. I've never encountered any rudeness though. They always ask if I am going to keep my brass, and I always say yes or I reload, something along those lines. We part ways amicably & that's it.
Times are tough for some people out there & I don't have a problem with them trying to make a few extra bucks by scrounging other peoples' throwaways. I look at it the same as guys grabbing cans out of the trash. More power to em
