I don't think I have any WST that old. I switched over to WST when Obama got elected for the first time and all the more common powders got really hard to get. W231 was so hard to find I switched to WST.

You will find that WST is a very clean powder. Not only that but it meters like water, fills the case nicely, and burns cooler than other powders. All that and it smells great when fired. I can tell someone is shooting WST from anywhere at the range. It smells so much better than other powders.
5.0gr of WST will actually work in 9, 40 and 45.

Lately I've switched over to WSF for some slightly stouter loads. I've been shooting a 9mm carbine lately and the hotter WSF loads work great in it. And my Glocks obviously don't care

So I came across a very early load card and I found the following data on it:

        4.4gr WAST
        1.100-1.107 OAL
        115gr Rainier HP

I lived so it could not have been THAT bad.

        What a coincidence though...

Start at 4.1gr to be safe though...

The "1" refers to the 1 lb canister. I have a canister of 3 lbs of WST and it has WST3 on the label.

Sure it is not just because it is THREE times the fun?

Works great for me too on both 9 and 45. I use 5.0 gr with 124 gr FMJ Montana Gold with 1.150 OAL and it is amazingly accurate, clean burning and reasonably soft felt recoil. I love WST.

I also suspect there was some bullet push back(don't know what to call it) because of the compressed powder. I don't know how people are loading anywhere near 5 grains with a 124 grain in this case unless they are loaded way long, which doesn't seem possible. even with 4.4 grains there wasn't much room left in the case for the bullet.
Unfortunately this load wasn't tested this weekend like we planned. I'll keep report back as soon as we test it out.

BTW an out of print hornady manual lists 4.6 grains starting charge with WST, with a max of 5.2 or 5.4 with a 124 grain bullet
The data is out there if you google it. In fact I posted it just last week.

                  Here it is:

I only started with a 4.4 grain charge because the hornady manual suggested a start of 4.6 and I didn't want to start too low. I was going to start at 3.6 and work up to 4.4. There is no way I'm going over 4.4 now though.

BTW WST is fine for standard loads, but don't try and push it to higher velocities. Its too fast and builds pressure VERY quickly. That said, its great for my 38 spl loads in my 3" 686.
Range report. I shot the above load today. 124 grain cast lead 9mm sized to .358, powder coated, loaded to 1.135 oal, 4.4 grains WST. They chronoed about 1050 fps, and recoil was modest. About on par with some 115 grain winchester white box that we compared them to(which shot 1150 through the chrono). only 1 stove pipe. otherwise flawless and pretty accurate as far as I could tell. the sights need adjustment. They were fired from a hungarian FEG(i think thats what its called), a bastardization of a hipower: DA/SA similar to a beretta. So a fairly heavy gun. I was impressed and I think I'll stick with this load; maybe back off 1/10th so I don't compress the powder.

I love WST! so versatile, very low smoke. pleasing odor. And pretty accurate. For the record I use WST in 38 spl, 40 and 45.
my 38 load is 4 grains of WST with the same bullet as above 9mm load. I get about 750 fps from a 3" S&W.
40S&W load is also 4 grains of WST, with a 180 grain cast lead powder coated bullet sized to .401 which I use in a glock 22. about 1050 FPS
45 ACP load I use 5 grains of WST behind both 200 grain cast and 230 grain cast bullets. with 230s they chrono about 850fps from my 1911 IIRC.
