    hornady ftx missing tips

Just got my "blem" 30/30 160gr order from midsouth and found thata whole bunch of the bullets are missing the rubber tips.

I assume these will still be safe to load since its now a hollow point? Or will the edge of the hole cause a problem since its not a entire flat surface?

How much you think it would effect flight and or accuracy. Ill first load up the good bullets, find my ideal load, then use missing tips as plinking stuff, and have the rest of the good ones as primary hunting round.

Midsouth explained blems were water marks or discolored, not missing important tips!

I would give them a call.... I had a question about my order when I received it. Everything turned out fine, just a misunderstanding, and they were happy to help.

You should be fine to load them without the tips. They will certainly fly different but it shouldn't be "unsafe".

I'm guessing in this case they're going to say that they were blemmished, so there's nothing they can do.

Just got off the phone with midsouth and hornady. Midsouth was no help with anything, other then litterally telling me "tough luck, their blems"

Hornady on the other hand said they do not reccomend loading in a tube mag, because they do leave quite a sharp edge on the hollow point.

I was just thinking the same thing, no rubber tip what is in its place a big hollow point or an edge that can set off a primer it is touching?

Try filling the tip with silicon rubber or caulking, just a thought.

Damn..... I'm waiting on a thousand of those things.

When you say "a whole bunch", what do you mean? 20%? More/less?

I havent counted or looked at every individual bullet. But just looking at the back from whats visible from outside, is about 15missing tips, also a few of them I noticed have half the tip sticking out.

If you paid less than 85% full price, you are ahead of the game. You could fill the cavity with hot glue or just shoot em single shot while developing a load. I'll tell you want not to do with them:

Don't try shooting any denim-wearing deer with them. The hollow point will fill up with the denim and the bullet will pass through without expanding!

maybe drop in hot wax from a candle to fill the tips.

I received some 168gr BT with the plastic tip and all tips are intact. The only blemish appears to be some discoloration of the copper on maybe 15%. Most look perfect.
Also got some 150gr round nose with canelure for 30-30. The blemish on these is the lead tip is more flat than round.
